• When we talk about universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), we are talking about environments considered as valuable resources for the sociocultural context in which they are inserted, therefore, the investment in PS in these environments is also an investment for the future. The movement of Health Promoting Universities (UPS) arises from this conception, which sees the university as influential in the transformation of individuals and communities. When analyzing works on PS, we noticed that there are many different interpretations and approaches. To better understand the possibilities and directions, it is important to consider the scientific studies related to UPS. This article constitutes an integrative literature review, highlighting practical-methodological conceptions and textual modalities presented regarding UPS. Through this study, it is possible to perceive that the university plays a fundamental role in the identification and resolution of health problems. These actions involve the creation and implementation of educational, political, legislative and organizational strategies. The constitution of a UPS should be presented in a more systematic way, focusing efforts on strengthening networks and characterizing this movement. Over the years and the growth of the movement, a favorable scenario of SP strategies in HEIs has been built. However, the necessary care must be maintained so that SP actions and projects in higher education do not succumb to a context of commodification. The tendency to understand health solely as the absence of disease must also be overcome.

• Our research was carried out in order to learn more about the Bachelor of Gender and Diversity Studies (BEGD) course offered by the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). We set out to answer the following question: “What are the main challenges and perspectives of the Bachelor’s Degree in Gender and Diversity Studies from the perspective of students?”. Our general objective was to obtain a survey referring to the course, having an analysis and critical view of the active students to understand a little more about the proposal of this new profession and its applicability both academically and in the job market. We carried out a survey of the students' socioeconomic profile, described their motivations and perspectives regarding the course and pointed out the challenges of this career in their view. The research used the methodology of content analysis with semi-structured interview. Our results were divided into exploratory material 1, exploratory material 2 and exploratory material 3, being coded and categorized for better structuring and analysis.

• This work, with a quantitative, exploratory and descriptive approach, aims to evaluate the quality of sleep of undergraduate students of the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Health (BIS) at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). For this, this research, carried out from the elaboration of a collection of articles that deal around this issue, was divided into two products: the first article deals with the quality of sleep of undergraduate BIS students at UFBA during the COVID pandemic -19 and was carried out based on the collection of primary data through a questionnaire applied to the students, containing questions related to socio-demographic characteristics and questions for measuring the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The second, in turn, was carried out with the aim of estimating the prevalence of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and associated factors in BIS undergraduate students at UFBA, and thus discusses the main factors associated with EDS in BIS students. The results of the articles contributed to identify a high prevalence of poor sleep quality and EDS in BIS students. Associations were also observed between sleep quality and modifiable and nonmodifiable variables. In addition, it was observed that, with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, most undergraduates noticed changes in their sleep. It is expected that this study will serve as a subsidy to foster discussions on the quality of sleep in undergraduates and interventions on sleep educational programs in higher education, increasing the level of knowledge about this subject among the academic community and the propagation of sleep habits healthier through activities and actions on sleep hygiene and on the importance of preventing poor sleep quality and EDS, which harm the well-being and health of students

• Common mental disorders (CMD) stand out as a mental health condition, presenting high prevalence in various populations, being associated with loss of quality of life, relationship problems, and psychological suffering. In the work sphere, their presence generates repercussions in productive sectors, such as absenteeism and an increase in state spending on health. The objective of the present study was to analyze the relationship between CMT and sociodemographic and occupational characteristics in the population of technical-administrative educational workers (TAE) at the Federal University of Bahia. This is a cross-sectional study, carried out from April to July 2022, with 429 active employees. The Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) was used for tracking CMT. The prevalence of CMT was 51.6%. A positive and statistically significant association (p<0.05) was identified between the presence of CMT and three other factors: working at a place other than the Federal University of Bahia; having changed sector in the last 12 months and workload of 40 hours per week compared to those who work continuous shifts. The presence of CMT was higher among Women and non-binary people (52.7%), when compared to Men (49.7%). The installation of a mental health tracking system for TAE workers at the University was recommended. The high rates of CMT found point to a psychic illness, showing to be fundamental that other studies be carried out in order to investigate which factors related to the working conditions are potentiators of mental health problems of the TAE, and that the institutional practices of management and promotion of mental health of the TAE servers be improved.

• Higher education in Brazil is built in a segregationist way, focused on the middle and upper classes. The educational marginalization of most of its population is the fruit of the colonial heritage, which left practically no access to education for all those who were subordinated by the colonizer. In the realm of knowledge production, the Brazilian university has established modern science as its ultimate and supreme knowledge, thus excluding all types of knowledge "foreign" to the parameters of its scientificity. However, in recent years, a change is underway in the case of Brazil. Two milestones can be mentioned in the transformation of the exclusionary paradigm. The first is the implementation of the Support Program for Restructuring and Expansion Plans of Federal Universities (REUNI), in 2007. The second milestone is the enactment of Law No. 12,711/2012, the so-called Quotas Law. In the curricular changes encouraged by REUNI, the Interdisciplinary Bachelors (BI) represent, at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), an opportunity for curricular innovation proposing a general education in the higher education scenario. From these changes, UFBA presents gradual alterations in the ethno-racial and social profile of the students, becoming more inclusive and diverse. However, when thinking about these changes that result from the arrival of new racial-ethnic, social, sexual and gender profiles, we also need to think about the epistemological inclusion of these subjects, since they bring new pedagogical, curricular and training challenges. This qualitative work aimed to understand how the new pedagogical proposal of the BI, specifically the BI in Humanities (BIH), has contributed to the implementation of intercultural dialogue and the promotion of cognitive justice. Having as theoretical reference the decolonial studies, we used comprehensive interviews, conducted with quota-holding students, for data production. The main empirical results of the research point to the power of the BiH to promote a convergent education between interdisciplinary science and intercultural education. It becomes an effort, albeit preliminary, of the course to propose and discuss new pedagogical and theoretical proposals from different theoretical frameworks. A preambular effort, as it was observed, when analyzing the course plans, that they sin in the selection of the obligatory bibliography of the analyzed components, as they privilege certain geopolitical bodies.

• The phenomenon of dropout has increased in undergraduate courses, causing, among other problems, expenditure of public resources, resulting in a serious compromise in qualification of young Brazilians, in the most varied areas of knowledge. In undergraduate courses, dropout rates become even more evident when compared to other types of knowledge. The increase in dropout rate in undergraduate courses is related to several factors Understanding the reasons that lead to dropout in undergraduate courses at a higher education institution is fundamental to thinking about possible actions to minimize this phenomenon. The present study sought to answer the following question: “What factors are related to student dropout from undergraduate courses at Teacher Training Center of Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia?” The general objective of the research is to understand the causes of dropout in undergraduate courses at Teacher Training Center (CFP) at Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB). To that end, it was used a quantitative/qualitative methodological approach. The quantitative nature of this research refers to the collection and analysis of data relating to the target audience of this study, with a questionnaire applied to those who had dropped out. As for the qualitative methodology in this study, it enabled an interpretation of results that goes beyond numerical representation, through open questions. Our study regarding the reasons why students from undergraduate courses at that center drop out, highlighted specificities related to the reality of region, in which the university is located, such as: the need to travel due to the fact that they live in neighboring cities; choosing a degree course as the second option; pedagogical relationships; methodological approach to content; how the evaluation is handled; social relations between those subjects. On the other hand, we did not identify a relationship between the family group in which the students were included and dropping out of course. We conclude, therefore, that studies on evasion are important for understanding that phenomenon in Brazilian higher education. However, new strategies need to be taken on that journey, in order to consolidate a theoretical model that understands specificities linked to dropout of Brazilian university students according to the reality in which they are inserted, as evasion cannot be seen from a single perspective

• The COVID-19 pandemic resulted biopsychosocial impacts in global scale, requiring studies to be understood. In this direction, this research aims to apprehend the social representations of university students about COVID-19. Data were produced through a Free WordAssociation Test, a sociodemographic questionnaire and interviews, in two moments. The first moment consisted of the virtual application of the Free Word-Association Test and the second, of the realization of the interviews, both virtual and in person. At both times, a sociodemographic questionnaire was applied. A total of 287 students from the interdisciplinary baccalaureate from UFBA participated in the first stage of the study and, in the second, 34 students. The test was carried out from August 2021 to May 2022 and the interviews between November 2021 and November 2022. A sociodemographic data were presented by frequency, measures of position and central tendency. The test data resulted in a four-house chart and a similitude tree. Based on the interviews, a Descending Hierarchical Classification was produced. The softwares used were Jamovi® , Evoc® and Iramuteq® . Data analysis was based on Bardin's Content Analysis techniques and Jean-Claude Abric's considerations on the structural approach of social representations. Regarding sociodemographic data, most students are black people, religious and cisgender women. The possible central core of the social representation about COVID-19 was composed of the idea that COVID-19 generated a pandemic, marked by death and the fear of illness and death. The peripheral elements were constituted by the sensation of chaos, by a certain restlessness in relation to the government and the presidency. The peripheral zone was also integrated by health protection measures and the emotions of the participants, such as anxiety, insecurity and sadness. Respondents highlighted that the pandemic had impacts on their lives and their community. They demonstrated confidence in scientific knowledge for confront the pandemic. In this context, dissatisfaction with the presidential government, with its conduct and political positions was an element present among the interviewees. Thus, the COVID-19 pandemic triggered negative feelings of anxiety and fear, especially in relation to family members, due to the fear that family members would contract the disease. As COVID-19 is a recent disease, it is suggested to deepen its social representations in future studies, including with other groups. It is hoped, with this study, to contribute with reflections that help the university to design strategies for moments of crisis.

• Interdisciplinarity, as a pedagogical and epistemological principle, plays an increasingly essential role in the context of higher health education. In a world characterized by complex and interconnected problems, the ability to integrate knowledge and perspectives from multiple disciplines is fundamental for training professionals prepared to face contemporary challenges. However, despite its unquestionable relevance, interdisciplinarity often faces significant obstacles in its conceptualization and effective application in educational practice. The fragmented understanding of its foundations, as well as the lack of clear methodological approaches, can hinder its coherent incorporation into academic curricula. Based on this issue, this dissertation is structured into two independent but complementary articles. In the first article, entitled "Interdisciplinarity: History and Conceptual Plurality," we carry out a critical analysis of the history and foundations of interdisciplinarity, with the aim of clarifying the challenges associated with its conceptual definition. In turn, the second article, entitled "Interdisciplinary Experiences in Higher Education in Health: A narrative review", aims to provide a comprehensive view of the current state of national scientific publications that explore interdisciplinarity experiences in undergraduate health courses during the period from 2012 to 2022. In this study, initially, a comprehensive categorization of articles was conducted based on several parameters, and in addition, we adopted a conceptual epistemological framework previously applied to the empirical categorization of interdisciplinarity in research projects to classify interdisciplinarity experiences in higher education in health. Therefore, this dissertation aims to encourage discussions about the concepts and practices of interdisciplinarity in higher education in health, contributing with reflections and questions to advance interdisciplinary practice and overcome tensions arising from persistent disciplinary hegemony

• The training of healthcare professionals and workers has been considered a critical issue in the
implementation of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). In this perspective, there has
been an intensification of debates regarding the need for reforms and changes in higher
education policy, the teaching model, and pedagogical processes in various courses. Medical
education, in particular, has been a significant topic in these debates, leading to the creation of
new National Curriculum Guidelines in 2014, which guide the development of new courses and
curriculum reforms in existing ones. In Bahia, the establishment of the medical course at the
Multidisciplinary Institute in Health (IMS) within the advanced campus of the Federal
University of Bahia (UFBA) in Vitória da Conquista, implemented from 2015, stands out.
Based on an innovative curriculum organization proposal, this course is the subject of an
investigation conducted as part of the Master's program in Interdisciplinary Studies at the
University (EISU - IHAC/UFBA). Initially, an integrative literature review was conducted on
the incorporation of the integrated curriculum proposal in undergraduate health courses in
Brazil to identify the conceptual and methodological foundations of this type of curriculum
since this approach was adopted in the IMS-UFBA Medicine program. This is a unique case
study, and data collection was carried out through document review and interviews with key
informants, namely faculty members who participated in the development of the Pedagogical
Political Project of the course and were part of the original Teaching Structuring Core (NDE),
as well as faculty members of the current NDE (2022) and students from the first class of the
course. The results include the characterization of the institutional context in which the course
was created, the analysis of the Pedagogical Political Project, and an examination of the course
implementation process. Thus, it was possible to discuss the conceptual and methodological
foundations of the IMS-UFBA Medicine program, observing an innovative curriculum design
that proposes a vertical and longitudinal integration of content throughout the course, using
active teaching and learning methodologies and devices. Furthermore, it was noted that,
according to the perception of the teachers regarding the development and implementation
processes of this course, it has faced various challenges, especially the insufficient and
inadequate faculty resources to meet the needs arising from the innovative pedagogical project.
However, despite this, the first class successfully graduated. It should be noted that the research
findings are presented in the form of three articles, with the elaboration of a fourth article
planned to contain the analysis of the students interviewed about the course.

• The present work proposed to investigate the institutionalization process and the operating panorama of the Pró-Reitoria de Cultura of the Universidade Federal do Cariri (UFCA). UFCA, created in 2013, was born with the proposal to establish culture as a strategic dimension of the institution, implementing a Pro-Rectory of Culture in its organizational structure and recognizing, in a bold and innovative way, culture as the fourth university dimension, along with to teaching, research and extension. Therefore, the objective of this study is to outline an overview of the cultural institutionality of UFCA, showing how the process of creating the PróReitoria de Cultura took place and how this instance has acted for the implementation of the institution's cultural policy. This is a descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, which adopts the case study for its development. Data production involved document analysis and interviews with managers and former managers of the Pró-Reitoria de Cultura, as well as agents who were involved in the process of its creation and implementation at the university. The data produced were analyzed using qualitative content analysis, through the pairing procedure, which consists of associating the collected data with the constitutive elements of the definition of cultural institutionality that have greater consensus among scholars in the area. Furthermore, the clashes, tensions, dissensions and consensuses that permeated the proposal to implement the Pró-Reitoria de Cultura were evaluated, taking into account the disruptive nature of the proposal, in relation to the standard organizational configuration adopted in Brazilian federal universities. The study of UFCA's cultural institutionality reaffirmed the power of the university as a cultural institution and the importance of validating culture as a structuring dimension of universities. The results obtained demonstrated that, as it encompasses teaching, research and extension actions, culture must appear as an independent element, being assumed as a strategic priority for institutions, in symmetry with the other dimensions of the academic tripod.

• As of Law 12.711 of 2012, public universities in Brazil began to adopt a quota policy for
black, indigenous and public school students. Before the law was approved, more than a half
of federal universities already adopted different types of affirmative action, reaching diverse
groups. In 2004, UFBA, through an internal Resolution 01/04, established for the first time
the admission of up to two students, in addition to the number of places established for
undergraduate courses, as long as residents of remaining communities of quilombos or
indigenous. Given the context of quilombola students entering higher education, this research
intended, based on the narrative of a quilombola student, to develop a possible understanding
of the relationship between permanence and identity in the academic space. The methodology
of this work, of a qualitative nature, was guided by the phenomenological hermeneutic
perspective and the data were produced through semi-structured interviews. It was observed
how the perception of the quilombola identity changed as the interlocutor constructed his
educational trajectory until the decision to attend higher education and after entering. The
perception of the university as a distant place is consistent with the decolonial analysis of
university institutions and their exclusionary structure. In university, there is a movement
away from quilombola issues, their histories and ways of knowing and doing that, to a large
extent, do not dialogue with academic know-how and the production of scientific knowledge.
Finally, the narrative revealed the organization of quilombola students at UFBA based on a
collective, CODEQUI, as a fundamental example of a practical-ideological order to think
about strategies of symbolic permanence based on a collective identity.

• Due to the configuration of current social development, guided by the speed and ease of
dissemination of information and knowledge, the traditional teaching model has become
increasingly obsolete. In relation to Biology Degree courses, there is a predominance of a
dichotomous formation, due to the reproduction of fragmented content, normally
decontextualized from reality, as well as a greater influence of technical-specific components
in comparison to didactic-pedagogical ones, making it necessary for universities review the
relationship they establish with the process of building knowledge in an innovative way. The
general objective of this research is to investigate which concepts have supported discussions
about pedagogical and curricular innovation in the Brazilian context of the Biology Degree
and their relevance to the area. The specific objectives are: to investigate the conceptions and
relevance that have been attributed to pedagogical innovation in the Brazilian context of the
Biology Degree and, to identify the conceptions and relevance of curricular innovation in
studies on the topic in the Brazilian context of the Biology Degree. The methodological path
was based on a qualitative and exploratory approach, based on bibliographical research. The
theoretical basis of the study is based on concepts relating to different types of innovation in
education. The relevance of the study topic is elucidated through the emerging educational
scenario of universities, in which there has been a confrontation between the dichotomies that
until then founded these spaces, generating an institutional crisis, making it necessary to
rethink the idea of university in an innovative and emancipatory way. The results indicate that
there are few articles published on pedagogical innovation and curricular innovation in the
area of Biology Degree, in the Brazilian context and that innovation is a conceptually
complex and polysemic theoretical field, which responds both to the context in which it is
inserted, and to the conceptual point of view of the author who discusses it. Or, even, many
works focusing on innovation that did not present the concept that was supporting the study.

• Faced with the covid-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, known as the "new coronavirus", several cities around the world have adopted restrictive measures involving the suspension of face-to-face educational activities at all stages and in various modalities. Following this perspective, the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) suspended face-to-face academic activities on March 17, 2020, in compliance with the recommendations of the health authorities and the legal provisions that came into force in the municipalities that host the university units. In order to continue its teaching, research and extension activities during the widely recommended social distancing, academic periods characterized by the offer of curricular components in non-face-to-face mode, mediated through digital technologies, were instituted between 2020 and 2021. In this context, the aim of this work is to investigate how undergraduate students at ICTI/UFBA perceive their learning processes in the online semesters instituted in the context of the covid-19 pandemic. To this end, a qualitative study was carried out based on a narrative literature review, in order to analyze how learning has been conceived in Higher Education in recent research, and by conducting narrative interviews with students enrolled in curricular components offered online between the Supplementary Academic Semester (2020) and the Special Academic Semester (2021.1), instituted at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). The narratives were analyzed using the hermeneutic-dialectic method proposed by Cecília Minayo, considering the conceptual framework of Étienne Wenger's Social Theory of Learning. The results show that despite the participants recognizing and highlighting learning that has taken place in other social spaces, such as changing perspectives on life and ways of relating, both with the people who make up their social communities and with the objects of study in the learning communities linked to the university, in general, learning is still seen as a result, a product of the quantitative accumulation of information on the content taught, achieved with effort and which can be passed on and used to bring scientific meaning to practice. The results suggest that we rethink our perceptions of learning, broadening our view of its concept and not restricting it to specific times, spaces or objectives. The abrupt changes imposed by the covid-19 pandemic have shown that education can be more flexible than we ever imagined, allowing access to a wider range of resources and different ways of learning.

• This work presents the results of the investigation into the presence of culture on the schedule of the Congresses of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) in the editions held from 2016 to 2019, a space for dialogue between the most diverse knowledge produced in the programs of student assistance and promotion of research, extension and teaching, in all areas of knowledge and involving undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and extension. In the methodological approach, we used the reports issued by the Event Management System (GERE) team ‒ system of submission and evaluation of activities, made available for research in the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format and we applied the methodology of filtering pre-established and assorted keywords for data production, using automated search through R language. The data analysis assumes the concept of culture in a more organizational perspective of the cultural field, recognizing the intentionality of producing, transmitting and consuming works and practices of intellectual and artistic activity as a parameter for belonging to the cultural sphere in its sociological dimension. The results indicate that, in a transversal way, culture is present in all areas of knowledge at this Institution and that UFBA occupies a prominent place in cultural studies in the Brazilian university environment

• In this research, we aim to understand, through the perceptions of undergraduate students at the
Teacher Training Center of the Federal University of Recôncavo Bahia/UFRB, how the actions
carried out by the extension programs: Pet Afirmação, Poéticas Periféricas, and Cafuné impact
or do not impact their academic formation. Both programs have as their main objective to foster
discussions on Ethnic-Racial issues within the context of extension activities. In university
settings, extension actions with themes related to race and blackness have proven to be essential
for dialogues and educational development. In the case of a Teacher Training Center, this
dialogue becomes even more crucial. However, it is important to understand how their
development has facilitated these exchanges and how they have reached the student body of the
center. In this vein, this research takes a qualitative approach. For this purpose, an exploratory field research was conducted. To comprehend the students' perceptions, we used semi- structured interviews conducted with 8 students, one from each course at the center, each in different semester periods. Additionally, as a means of delimiting the programs involved, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the three program coordinators. This research allowsus to understand how extension activities at the Teacher Training Center have been developed, how these actions have been guided, and how they have impacted the student community at the center. It also suggests pathways for Ethnic-Racial Relations education that may emerge through the actions offered by programs and projects engaged in racial discussions within academic spaces

• Throughout history, one of the challenges present in the process of social ascension of black populations is racism. Therefore, these people have always developed resistance strategies to guarantee the possibility of becoming members of places and contexts only reserved for white elites, such as universities. These strategies are diverse, and range from abolitionist movements to ordinary everyday practices. The territory of interest of this study is the brazilian federal universities, and university data has indicated that this student profile is mostly black; however, localized research, such as in prestigious courses such as Medicine, demonstrate that there is still a big difference in the number of black, brown and white people in this space. Medicine, Law and Engineering are the so-called "imperial courses", so named because they were founded in the Imperial era of Brazil. The profile of students in these courses are traditionally white and of high economic class. Considering the tensions provoked by the dynamics of racial relations, these data lead to questions about the experiences of black people, both from the middle and lower classes, in these specific courses. This study uses as a theoretical basis the Ethnomethodology and the theoretical postulations of Frantz Fanon, and aimed to understand the processes experienced by black women in becoming members of the Law, Electrical Engineering and Medicine courses at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). Qualitative analyzes were carried out on how these students perceive and describe their daily experiences as they live and interact in university contexts considered elitist. In this way, this study aims to contribute to the understanding of how black people have become part of elitist contexts.

• Throughout history, Brazilian higher education has been constructed as elitist. However, in the last two decades, the adoption of public educational policies has provided access to students traditionally excluded from higher education. The main objective of this research is to analyze the developments of student assistance as a public policy to combat social and racial inequalities, having as a research locus the Teacher Training Center (CFP) of the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB). As specific objectives, we seek to identify and analyze how the Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia promotes student assistance at the Teacher Training Center, as well as analyze the conditions for the permanence of self-declared black and brown students in undergraduate courses at the Training Center. Of Professors at UFRB. As a methodological contribution, we used a qualitative approach, of the exploratory type, in which documental analysis and narrative interviews were carried out with students from the CFP of UFRB. The theoretical basis is based on the concepts of equity and social inequality present in the thoughts of John Rawls, and in the concepts of student permanence of Dyane B.R. saints. It was proposed to approach the trajectory of the student assistance policy in Brazil and the affirmative action policies for access and permanence in higher education. The importance of the topic is due to the practical observance that the policy for admission to public higher education constitutes a way of confronting the inequalities typical of Brazilian society. However, it is understood that only promoting access does not guarantee inclusion and that it is also necessary to guarantee the permanence and completion of the course. We understand that the student assistance policy has a fundamental role in the search for equality of conditions, as it is a great strategy in the fight against social and racial inequalities. The results show that the CFP student assistance policy seeks to cover the áreas identified by the National Student Assistance Program (PNAES), making it possible to contemplate students with the most diverse needs that affect their permanence at the university. However, it can only cover a small portion of students who need student assistance. And yet, it is clear that the permanence of these students in higher education is only possible with the support of student assistance.

• The insertion of human resource management policies in the Brazilian public administration has
as one of its legal landmarks the Decree 5.707/2006, which establishes the policy and
guidelines for the development of people. Among these guidelines are the training actions,
which are potential instruments for the development and improvement of skills and abilities of
those who carry them out. Thus, in order to know whether the purposes of the training actions
were achieved or not, it is necessary to verify the influence of these actions on the development
of the work. However, although there are some national scientific productions on this theme,
within the Brazilian Federal Universities, the number of studies that consider the managers'
viewpoint is still small. Thus, the objective of this study is to understand how managers perceive
the development of the work of Technical-Administrative Education Servants (TAEs) who
participated in the course "Text Production with Official Writing". This research is qualitative and
exploratory in nature and had five stages. In the first stage, it was verified how the survey of
needs occurs (identification of demands) and the objective proposed for each training, whose
information is contained in the UFBA Management Report - Fiscal Year 2019 (UFBA, 2019). In
the second step, the trainings held in the year 2019 were identified through the Annual Training

Plan 2019 of the Training Center of the Coordination of Human Development of the Pro-
Rectorate of People Development (NUCAP/CDH/PRODEP) (UFBA, 2019). In the third stage,

after the list of servants participating in the courses in 2019 was received by CDH, the
respective managers were identified from the institutional pages of the units in wh ich these
servants were assigned at the time. The fourth stage was data collection and took place in the
second semester of 2021, a period in which on-site activities at the universities were still
suspended (a condition imposed by the COVID-19 Pandemic). In it, an online questionnaire with
32 items associated with a Likert scale of six alternative answers was sent by email to the
managers of these servants. This instrument was based on the Course Reaction Scale (ERC),
adapted from Abbad's Training Outcomes Assessment Model (2012), the fourth component of
Abbad's IMPACT (1999). Finally, in the fifth step, the collected data were analyzed and
discussed in light of the theoretical framework adopted in this research. Then, the results were
presented and discussed. Information was obtained about the effectiveness and influence of the
course "Text Production with Official Writing" in the work of TAEs se servants, according to the
managers' perception. With that, it was intended, from a case study, to contribute to the
proposition of reflections on stronger and weaker points that these plans may present,
considering their conception, planning and allocation of resources and execution and for the
production of material that can subsidize the adoption of instructional methodologies that have a
positive impact on the practice of activities at the work of TAEs.

• This work aims to identify and analyze, within the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), the actions and policies of internationalization aimed at the university’s insertion in the context of global education. The thesis demonstrates how UFBA has historically carried out actions in order to mark itself as an institution that acts in the perspective of integration between a university and knowledge production through internationalization. Based on the Institutional Development Plans (PDI) of the university, a document research was conducted about these actions up until the approval of its Internationalization Plan in 2018. The analysis is based on the review of the policies adopted by Brazilian governments to promote university internationalization up until the creation of the Science without Borders Program (PCsF) and Capes PrInt, in which UFBA was and is a participant, situating these significant, strategic actions for the insertion of Brazilian Federal Institutions of Higher Education in the international academic scene. This will certainly include the greatest challenge presented by scholars of internationalization: language proficiency. In this aspect, the analysis will deal with the PROFICI - Foreign Language Proficiency Program for Students and Employees of UFBA - which constitutes the main instrument of qualification and diffusion of the foreign language for the internal community of the university. Next to it is the Language Center (NucLi) within the scope of the Languages without Borders Program, which works in conjunction with PROFICI in the process of expanding opportunities to study a foreign language for academic purposes. The analysis is based on the review of policies adopted by Brazilian governments to promote university internationalization with the creation of the Science without Borders Program (PCsF) and Capes PrInt, in which UFBA was and is a participant, situating these significant, strategic actions for the insertion of Brazilian Federal Institutions of Higher Education in the international academic scene.

• This study analyzed how the Federal University of Bahia has offered mental health care to students. This research was based on a qualitative approach, having an exploratory and descriptive character. The literature review stage considered the productions about mental health care for university students available in a virtual collection, in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), in Latin American Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs) and in International Literature in Health Sciences (MedLine), using the descriptors: assistance, mental health, student and university. The fieldwork was divided into two moments, or two phases: the first began with a survey of the units that make up the University Health System of UFBA (SIUNIS) and the permanent programs and health care services, linked to the university units . This search took place through the SIUNIS website, and then a face-to-face visit was carried out at the units that mentioned the provision of health services to students to verify those that had some action aimed at mental health. In the second phase of data collection, semi-structured interviews were carried out with professionals who coordinate or work in the services and actions of mental health care for students, offered by UFBA. The empirical material was stored in the Ti 9 software for qualitative data analysis, where it was possible to transcribe, organize the material and separate fragments of discourse into thematic categories. For data analysis, the content analysis method was used. Thirteen actions and/or services with activities aimed at caring for the mental health of students at UFBA were identified in the mapping. They are related to SIUNIS units, extension activities, internship activities and research groups. It was observed that bureaucratic and financial difficulties of the University's structure are something that prevents the expansion of services and, in turn, the improvement in the quality of the activities developed. In addition to the characteristics of the services, this study also analyzed the profile of professionals working in mental health care activities, based on their interviewees; and the motivations and symptoms that lead students to seek mental health services at the University. It was found that symptoms related to anxiety, depression and complaints related to the University were the main motivations that led them to seek activities to care for their mental health within UFBA. Finally, we sought to understand the interviewees' conception of comprehensive health care, prevention and health promotion; identifying that, for the most part, they understand the concepts, but that the practices carried out at the University still do not reflect this understanding, especially with regard to the development of actions to promote and prevent the health of students.

• The present dissertation proposes to analyze the factors associated with Common Mental Disorders in undergraduate university students on the campuses of the Federal University of Bahia located in the city of Salvador - BA, in the year 2021. Therefore, it is a quantitative research, cross-sectional, exploratory analytical type, carried out with female and male undergraduate students, aged 18 years or over, regularly enrolled in all shift courses: morning, afternoon, evening and full-time. Therefore, the dynamics of the investigation process for data collection consisted of the application of validated and self-administered questionnaires in a virtual environment: Socioeconomicdemographic Questionnaire (QSD), Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) and the Academic Experience Questionnaire in its reduced version (QVA-r). Data were submitted to quantitative analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences - SPSS software, version 20.0, for the Windows operating system. Thus, a descriptive analysis of the epidemiological profile of the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, the lifestyle of university students and the conditions of infrastructure, interpersonal relationships and the teaching-learning process of the aforementioned institution of higher education was carried out. The Prevalence Ratios of the dependent and independent variable and the respective 95% confidence intervals were also calculated. The independent sample t test for difference between means, Pearson's chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were applied, considering a significance level of 5% (p ≤ 0.05) for a statistically significant association. As a result, 509 undergraduates participated in this study, 367 (71.2%) female and 142 (27.9%) male, with a mean age of 24.06 years (SD = 6.566). Furthermore, there was a prevalence of suspected Common Mental Disorders (SRQ-20 score ≥ 7) of 78.6% of the sample, observed with a higher percentage in female students. The results also show the main statistically significant associated factors when related to suspicion of Common Mental Disorders: being female (p < 0.01), non-white (p = 0.02), single (p = 0.01), without support from the University in the face of adversity (p < 0.01) and who do not consider the University a welcoming environment (p < 0.01). In view of the above, the need for further investigations that complement and deepen the issues, problems and findings presented and discussed here is discussed. In addition, it points to the need for collective actions, both on the part of university managers and student entities, as well as institutional behaviors, mental health care strategies and intersectoral assistance that lead to the biopsychosocial well-being of students and the effectiveness in stimulating an institutional culture that values healthier, humane and solidary academic experiences in the university environment.

• The discourse of racial democracy, miscegenation and cordiality impacted the way in which affirmative action policies for ethnic-racial quotas were understood in Brazil. These speeches generated normative relationships that impacted on the weakening of ethnic-racial quotas due to fraud in racial self-declaration, as well as the problem of leniency in the action of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) in relation to the institutionalization of measures that aimed to curb and investigate the fraud in ethnic-racial quotas. As of 2019, in the selection processes for admission to graduation, UFBA, in order to guarantee legal certainty for the entry of black quota students, adopted racial assessment as a complementary procedure to racial self-declaration, from the creation of the Permanent Commission of Heteroidentification Complementary to Self-Declaration (CPHA), which is responsible for managing racial assessment boards in the selection process for admission to graduation through ethnic-racial quotas and the investigation of ticket fraud. Starting from an ethnomethodological study, the aim is to investigate and analyze the institutional/discursive practices of the CPHA/UFBA through the social practices of its participants. The theoreticalmethodological course consists of institutional ethnography based on the instruments of field diaries and interviews of the multiple references involved (Managers, Assessors of the Assessment Boards, Students enrolled by ethnic-racial quotas, Leaders of the Student Movement and Leaders of Black Movements ), understanding its implications. It aims, through this study, to describe the way of doing the CPHA/UFBA, as well as to understand the process of university management from the dialogue together with the student movement and the Brazilian black social movement.

• This dissertation is the result of a research on the relationship of Social Work with the racial question. It refers specifically to how the racial question is addressed in the curriculum-formation of the Social Work course of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), also from student narratives about the racial question in the PoliticalPedagogical Project (PPP) of the course. This is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study that used documentary analysis and comprehensive interview for data production. The legal and normative documents of the profession were analyzed to understand how the racial question appears in the Code of Ethics of the Social Worker (1993), curriculum guidelines of 2002 – compared to the 1999 proposal – and other documents and initiatives promoted by ABEPSS and by the CFESS-CRESS Set, documents that exert profound influence on the curriculum-training in Social Work. The comprehensive interview was used with students of the Social Work course at UFBA, in order to apprehend how this public perceives the approach of racial question in the Social Work curriculum-training. The results indicate that the racial question appears discreetly in the legal-normative documents. In PPP it is discussed in some disciplines, however, in some components, the racial question is not included in the recommended bibliographic references. The interviewed students note the progress of the course in relation to the transversalization of the racial question in the curriculum-training, but recognize that changes occur slowly. The Social Work course at UFBA tries to promote the incorporation of the racial question in the curriculum-training, but it still reflects the history of the profession that secondary the racial question.

• Anxiety has been present as a universal affection for the human condition since time immemorial. It is an increasingly frequent research theme in different groups, including medical undergraduates. Considering the relevance of the theme, the present study aimed to develop a literature review with the objective of characterizing the conceptions of anxiety present in research on the subject carried out with medical students and to identify intervention strategies and factors correlated with anxiety in these studies. A bibliographic survey was carried out on the Portal of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, capes journals, in the database of Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences - LILACS. Forty-two publications submitted to analysis from a bibliographic survey form and lexical analysis with the IRAMUTEQ software were selected. The results point to the preponderance of the psychiatric conception of anxiety based on the evaluation of signs and symptoms and on the bias of the pathology. The intervention strategies recommended in the articles that make up the sample, in general, are guided by the perspective of prevention, especially in the individual aspect.

• Integrative and Complementary Practices are medical rationales and therapeutic resources involved in the health-illness-care processes. This research aimed to understand the uses and meanings attributed to these practices among students of the Interdisciplinary Bachelor's Degree in Health at the Federal University of Bahia. This is a study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire, applied with freshmen and veterans' students, and semi-structured interviews, conducted only with veterans. The academics read and signed an informed consent form, agreeing to participate in the investigation voluntarily. Responses were processed with IBM SPSS Statistics and IRaMuTeQsoftware and analyzed according to content analysis. 503 questionnaires were answered and 34 interviews were conducted. In the questionnaires, 43,7% of the freshmen and 57,7% of the veterans declared being using or have used the Integrative and Complementary Practices, emphasizing use for eight years or more (21,0%) and adoption of the medicinal plants / herbal medicine (42,7%). Among the interviewed participants, the use of these practices is done in association with the use of biomedical practices and happens with professional monitoring or based on popular knowledge. The meanings attributed to Integrative and Complementary Practices indicated a centrality in the concept of alternative practice, followed by the ideas of traditional practice, complementary practice, integral care, health promotion, therapeutic practice and disease prevention. In this sense, the students demonstrate acceptance of the Integrative Practices, because attributed meanings related to their qualities and some indicated using them, in places such as the university. Therefore, it is important to promote the establishment of a university culture with integration of the Integrative and Complementary Practices. It is expected that this study can contribute to consolidation of these practices in the health field.

• The present study aims to understand the factors that interfere in the holding of organizational changes in the area of management at a Brazilian federal university. In order to reach the proposed objective, a qualitative research was made in which the object of study is the implementation of an administrative sector in the pro-rectors of the Federal University of Bahia. A field survey was conducted using institutional documents and semi-structured interviews with managers and former managers who have acted in these university bodies between the years 2013 and 2019 and, through the analysis of thematic categorial content, the characteristics were obtained of the change, the way it was conducted and the factors that interfered in the process of change according to managers. The result of the analyzes showed that: the implementation of this sector promoted punctual adjustments in institution-specific bodies, characterizing as an incremental change, simpler to be carried out; Five categories behaved as facilitators and six as hampering, and some of them, depending on the context, have behaved as much as facilitators and more difficulties being compatible with those found in studies related to other organizations; Most facilitators and hinders studied are related to how change is conducted and not to the characteristics inherent in the organization; The most relevant resistors were found between the intermediate managers themselves that were contrary or indifferent to change; The commitment of managers was the most important category of this study. Finally, it was concluded that the main strategy used by managers who performed change was to promote the involvement of servers throughout the process, achieving the support of most of them, facing little resistance and confirming that they were very receptive to change. It has also been verified that implementing organizational changes remains a major challenge for institutions, even in the case of simpler types of changes. As a conclusion, the study reveals that although the involvement of central administration is fundamental to ensure the implementation of organizational changes, the behavior of intermediate managers is the decisive element in this process.

• The dehumanization of health care practices is one of the most commonly discussed problems in the scientific literature in this field. It is often pointed out as a consequence of the currently predominant training model, based on valuing technical-scientific aspects to the detriment of subjective aspects of care that affect the doctor-patient relationship. It is known that this reality is directly related to the scientific discoveries of the nineteenth century and the capitalist mode of production and its influences on the construction of a view of health as a consumer good. In this sense, the university, as a training institution, and especially the faculties of medicine, has the task of promoting changes in the professional profile of graduates of medical training, guided by the National Curriculum Guidelines (DCN), which advocate the need for humanization, due to to the efforts of public policies of the Unified Health System (SUS). One way that can contribute to this process is the teaching of Humanities in the medical course. From this, this study aimed to investigate the contributions of the Ethical-Humanistic Axis (EEH) of the medical course curriculum at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) for the training of students. This exploratory, cross-sectional and mixed-approach investigation was developed using as a data production technique the answers to open questions from a questionnaire applied to medical students at UFBA, attending between the 1st and 8th semesters. Data analysis methods included document analysis, content analysis, similarity analysis and word cloud with the aid of the Iramuteq software for data processing. The results obtained indicated that the medical curriculum of the EEH at UFBA includes important themes in the field of bioethics and collective health, however it still has a strong anchoring in deontological content and a complete absence or insufficiency of fundamental themes such as the study of ethnic-racial relations in Health and Humanization, thus, needs several reformulations to adapt to the proposal of the latest DCN, published in 2014. In addition, it was identified that students recognize many contributions that they consider positive from the EEH to their training, with ethical aspects also highlighted, which reinforced the findings of the previous document analysis. Finally, regarding the conceptions of humanized care, it was observed that three trends predominate among individuals, one of which is that of those who conceptualize the theme from superficial views of the theme; another, to those who presented conceptually and subjectively in-depth conceptions; and still, those who demonstrate an understanding of humanization that is far from its essence. Overall, the results showed that the EEH provides important contributions to medical training at UFBA, but its curriculum needs important updates, in order to adapt the DCN and the reality of the SUS, and thus actually promote training that can contribute to the production of professionals considered humanized in the future.

• In 2009, the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) partially implemented a new curriculum architecture: the cycle system. Academic model that foresees Interdisciplinary Bachelors (BI) as the first cycle, traditional professional courses as the second and postgraduate courses as the third. The curriculum innovation is BI, interdisciplinary undergraduate courses organized by areas of knowledge that offer general education, with the intention of avoiding early professionalization and promoting cultural and civic bases for new students. The main objective of this research was to analyze the experiences of students who attended the BI in Health (BIS) and its repercussions on the choice of the professional course and university education among those who continued their studies in cycles. This is a case study that takes BIS training as a unit of analysis. For a detailed understanding of the research object, we used two data production techniques: a self-administered questionnaire that reached 117 respondents and narrative interviews with 14 informants. The subjects of this research are BIS graduates who migrated to professional courses in health as a second cycle. The main results of the quantitative stage of the research indicate that the BIS has brought one more possibility of entry into public higher education among young female students, black, who are completing their first graduation, with full availability for studies. The main motivations for entering the course are related to the desire to become professional and discover a path in the world of work. We reached BIS graduates in 10 different professional courses in health, although the largest percentage of them is concentrated in the two prestigious professions in the field: Medicine and Dentistry. Students claim that they are highly satisfied and that they do not intend to return to the university to attend another degree, which reveals the effectiveness of one of the aspects of the BIS, which is the promotion of safety in relation to professional choices. By reconstructing the formative itineraries of these students, based on the analysis of their narratives, we identified that professionalization projects come into play as the semesters go by and that part of them effectively respond to the proposal of early non-professionalization, while another group of students builds its path in the first cycle aiming at entering the medical course, embodying the “Medicine Project”. This desire to become a doctor, which drives a peculiar way of curricular construction, produces distortions in the educational process and brings internal tensions for BIS and for UFBA. Another aspect analyzed was the contributions of BIS to the academic training of students. From the thematic categorical analysis, five distinct contributions related to long-term knowledge and skills about university, civic and future health professionals' life were identified. Despite dealing with challenges posed by the predominant professionalizing curricular architecture and the inequalities of power, prestige and performance of professions in the health field, BIS has carried out general and interdisciplinary training and promoted a distinguished university life for those who enter the cycle regime of UFBA.

• This thesis, with a qualitative and exploratory approach, aims to analyze the Teaching Practicum Courses offered by the Letras with English Undergraduate Program at UFBA, in view of the propositions of public policies. For this purpose, this research, carried out from the elaboration of a collection of articles that deal with this issue, was divided into three products: the first, in order to address contemporary issues in Teacher Education, discusses the post-method pedagogy as a possible alternative for meeting social demands in teacher education, as well as broadening the reflection on the social commitment that English teaching has with the education of critical teachers who are active in society. The second, carried out from a documental analysis, by establishing an initial parallel between the teaching conceptions arising from the regulatory documents and the theories that supported this study, showed how the dominant discourse, the formation, not predetermined, of the truth, but conditioned the implicit and underlying factors, tend to direct the practice. The third, finally, revealed that the use of clear principles such as reflexivity and criticality, associated with student-centered teaching strategies, as well as the presence of appropriate theoretical support, strengthens and enriches learning in the construction of a coherent and interwoven with the world around them. The results of this article also contributed to reaffirm the place of the Teaching Practicum course as an important tool to overcome the dichotomous relationship between theory and practice. All discussions and analyzes implemented followed the perspective of a learner-centered approach through critical training.

• Despite the growing understanding that psychologists should receive training to differentiate religious experiences from mental disorders, no Brazilian studies on the training of psychologists for the development of this competence have been identified. General objective: To analyze the perceptions of psychology students related to the learning received for the clinical evaluation of religious experiences. Method: Integrative review of national studies on the differentiation between religious experiences and mental disorders. Application of a structured questionnaire about religiosity in clinical practice in thirty students at the Federal University of Bahia. The data produced through the questionnaire were subjected to quantitative and qualitative analyses. Main results: It was observed, in the 18 texts analyzed, the prevalence of a non-pathologizing perspective and a conception of health that takes little account of its social determinants. As for the responses of the participants, it was found that scientific knowledge, religious, subjective and/or aesthetic elements were present in their perceptions of religious experiences. It was also verified the learning that such experiences may not be pathological. However, they have not demonstrated sufficient technical knowledge to reliably identify non-pathological conditions. No elements were identified that allow us to affirm that the Psychology Course offered them training on the differential diagnosis between religious experiences and mental disorders, nonetheless most participants consider it relevant. The pathologization and “normalization” of such experiences among non-religious people stood out as topics to be debated at graduation. Final considerations: The national scientific production seems to contribute to the technical structure of Brazilian higher education and the training of psychologists stands out as a process that takes place in a space where languages and forms of knowledge meet. The formative gap identified raises the possibility of inadequate evaluation of elements related to religiosity, of “normalization” or pathologizing them.

• Despite her importance for Psychoanalysis, Social Sciences, and Psychology, Virgínia Leone Bicudo does not receive due recognition for her contributions in these fields. The recognition of the contributions of black intellectuals helps in the process of overcoming epistemic invisibility, enabling minority groups in the academic world to gain autonomy. This study describes the meanings constructed by Psychology students from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) regarding their professional and academic training after being exposed to Virgínia Bicudo's contributions in the field of racial relations. A total of seven students were interviewed. Participants differed from each other in terms of their socioeconomic backgrounds, ethno-racial origins, and gender. The research used a qualitative exploratory methodology based on the theoretical frameworks of Black Feminist Epistemology and Symbolic Interactionism, focusing on the interactions between subjects and contexts. Data were produced through workshops held during classes in the Psychology course at UFBA and through semi-structured interviews. Although all participants recognized the relevance of Bicudo’s contributions and the theme of racial relations to the academic and professional training of Psychology students at UFBA, the meanings produced about the importance of Bicudo’s legacy differed based on the ethnic-racial origin of the respondents. The meanings produced by the students were organized into three discourse models: 1) Discourses that expressed meanings related to the need to develop racial awareness; 2) Discourses that expressed meanings related to feelings of not belonging to the academic community; 3) Discourses that expressed meanings related to the need for action against the invisibilization of black and indigenous intellectuals. The study allow us to conclude that the absence of black and indigenous representation in the Psychology course at UFBA influences how students produce meanings about what it means to be a psychologist. Finally, Virgínia Bicudo’s work functioned as a sensitizing element that led the students to reflect on the hegemonic processes of knowledge construction, thus awakening their critical view on education and their sense of autonomy.

• The contemporary context, structured by digital technologies, is the pinnacle for the
exponential growth of access to information and so it has been transforming the way we
work, study, research and express ourselves. Demands for some skills associated with
Digital Literacy arise from that scenario, such as accessing, analyzing, organizing,
recreating, and evaluating critically the information at hand. Bibliographic management
software is able to optimize this process. Thus, the guiding question of the research was:
what are the contributions of bibliographic manager Zotero to the digital literacy of
students from BI - UFBA? Thus, the goal of this research was to analyze how literacy
practices learned through Zotero, a citation and reference management software, can
contribute to the digital literacy of students of Bacharelados Interdisciplinares in
Universidade Federal da Bahia. Therefore, it is a qualitative research based on the
principles of action research regarding the planning and implementation of an intervention
proposal through Zotero for the development of those skills, consequently widening the
digital literacy of the subjects involved in the research. The first step in the cycle of action
research consisted of an exploratory research with the implementation of Zotero in
componente Estudos Sobre a Contemporaneidade. The second step, carried out after the
evaluation of the previous set, was the implementation of the Reading and Writing with
Zotero workshop. In both stages the main instruments of data production were online
questionnaires and participant observation. From the analysis, we conclude that there is still
resistance from students to implement, in their daily academic practices, the applicability of
Zotero for reading and writing with digital support. The workshop demonstrates that by
using more systematic interventions Zotero can be a tool capable of contributing to the
development of students' digital literacy skills. Thus, the need for a more effective insertion
of the community in debates about Digital Literacy is highlighted. That the BI, its faculty

and its institutional staff must be committed to developing an environment where essential
skills and competencies for the students’ digital literacy capabilities can be fostered. In that
scenario, students are not only professionally qualified, but also critically, autonomously,
and digitally literate so as to participate fully in the contemporary society.

• The research focuses on training in psychology from an ethnic racial perspective. The main objective of the research is to understand whether training in psychology, in the context of a public university in Bahia, seeks to meet the demands of ethnic racial relations, from the point of view of the students. The qualitative research focuses on the training in psychology at the University of the State of Bahia (UNEB), due to the composition of its student body embracing the ethnic racial diversity and their insertion in a context of care and reception mainly for black people. The course of the research involved the carrying out of documentary analysis of the curriculum of the chosen institution, followed by a field research, whose data production was built from the holding of a press conference with six students of the final semesters of the course. Discussing the theoretical and practical articulation in psychology based on demands that involve ethnic racial relations in its formation evokes the discussion about curriculum and models of knowledge construction in contemporary society. It is believed that the research contributes by presenting possible ways to make viable a training in psychology that meets the demands of the context of the Bahian reality with regard to ethnic racial relations. Furthermore, it contributes with reflections for the course of psychology to dialogue with the needs of the university context in which it is inserted.

• This dissertation discusses the construction of academic and professional pathways of indigenous UFBA graduates. Affirmative action policies have changed the student body of universities and made it possible for more and more indigenous people to enter their courses. UFBA began to develop its differentiated access policy in 2004 and now has a number of indigenous graduates, who after passing the university continue to develop their path as professionals. In order to know this reality, qualitative research was carried out, through a semi-structured interview, using the principles of the compressive interview, divided into the topics: access and admission to the Federal University of Bahia; academic paths during the undergraduate course; postgraduate studies courses and professional performance.Five graduates were interviewed, all from Pataxó ethnic group, from Coroa Vermelha village. In the reports presented here, we highlight the construction of academic and professional pathways, motivated by the objectives and needs of their communities. Students rethink the meaning of this return, not only to physically return to the village, but to contribute to their academic, professional and political actions in favor of indigenous causes. As a result of the analysis of the academic and professional trajectories of the graduates interviewed in this research, we can say that university education is not a way to remove indigenous people from their ethnic-community bond, indigenous students achieve professional status in their area without However, failing to assume its indigenous identity.

• Teacher training is one of the decisive elements for improving the educational system, since the vision of teaching professionalism underlies a given training program, both in its content and in the way it is organized. Based on this, this study aims to analyze the workload of training activities in undergraduate courses at UFBA. Based on an exploratory research of documentary type, 1,355 menus of mandatory curricular components were analyzed, distributed in the 38 curricula of undergraduate courses at UFBA, in the day and night shift in the period of April / May 2018. The results showed that with respect to components that include the pedagogical dimensions, supervised internships and pedagogical practices, whose objectives are geared towards teacher training, the courses that showed a significant workload were Pedagogy, followed by Theater, Night shift Computing, Natural Sciences and Physical Education. The course with the lowest workload in this group was the Dance of the day shift. Thus, it appears that teacher training in UFBA undergraduate courses needs revision to adapt to the new requirements of the Curriculum Guidelines.

• This dissertation, presented in the form of a articles collection, aims to analyze the
perception of teachers about their work in a Public Institution of Higher Education, in
order to understand how they deal with the expansion of their scope. To this end, we
intend to analyze the dynamics of professional development of teaching activity;
investigate the expansion process in the scope of the teaching work; to understand
which are the conceptions that the teacher attributes to the teaching activity; verify
which strategies are used by teachers in view of the expansion in the scope of work. In
this way, it draws up a panorama of the reality of teaching in that university center in
the context of everyday life, and also observe the bottlenecks of the profession in order
to understand the strategies used by teachers to overcome adversity. As a
methodological path, we used the assumptions of documentary, bibliographic and
qualitative research, and they allowed the compilation of studies related to teaching
work at universities, also reflecting on the subjectivities of the individual's perception
about their relationship with work. Bibliographic and documentary research was used as
a research instrument, as well as semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed
through content analysis (BARDIN, 2011) and, through the words and frequency of the
interviewees' statements, four categories of meanings were identified, which allowed us
to formulate the following themes: Teachers' perception of the his trajectory to become
a teacher, Perception of teachers in relation to teaching work, Perception of teachers in
relation to health in teaching and Perception of teachers regarding the recognition of the
profession. The results indicated that it is a multifaceted activity, with this professional
having to develop teaching, research and extension activities, in addition to participating
in university management and planning. Then, it was possible to understand, from the
interviews, the relations of pleasure and tension of the teachers in relation to their work;
it shows a certain discouragement in relation to the reconfiguration of the conjuncture of
the teaching activity resulting from the range of demands and conditions for performing
professional work in contemporary universities. It was also observed the
characterization of teaching activity as a decent work, as recommended by the
International Labour Organization. Despite the attacks that the public university,
teachers and the academic community as a whole have suffered ‒ either through the
commercialization of education, or through public policies that go against the formative
and transformative character of the University ‒ we realize that this university
environment still lacks proposals and actions that allow more care for the health of its
professionals. In this sense, it is evaluated that the university environment has become,

in an expressive part, sickening. Then, this field needs more studies to better
understanding of this phenomenon and make it possible to change this panorama, so
that the university can fulfill its social role.

• This dissertation was organized in the form of a collection, consisting of two articles elaborated during the development of the research. The first article, which we call RESEARCHES RELATED TO INSTITUTIONAL SELF-EVALUATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS: MAIN APPROACHES AND FOCUS, sought to identify and analyze the main recurrent approaches in research dedicated to institutional self-assessment of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). For the selection of articles, the following descriptors were used: “higher education evaluation”, “institutional self-evaluation” AND “higher education”, “self-evaluation” AND “Own Evaluation Committee”. Four main approaches were identified: (1) studies that focus analysis on self-evaluation as a management tool, (2) the role of the Evaluation Committee in conducting the process, (3) the perception that community members have in relation to self-evaluation and (4) research that deals with issues concerning community participation and involvement in the institutional self-evaluation process. As a result, there was an absence of research that investigated the theme of participation in depth, especially the participation of community representatives in the planning and development of the self-evaluation activity in the Evaluation Committee. Having identified this gap, we developed the second article, entitled INSTITUTIONAL SELF-EVALUATION: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE PARTICIPATION OF THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY OF A FEDERAL PUBLIC UNIVERSITY. This study develops a comparative analysis of the participation of representatives of the academic community in the Evaluation Committee of the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia. For the development of the research, we used the bylaws, the minutes of election of members and minutes of meetings of the Commission. By making a systematic reading and qualitative analysis of the Commission's internal regulations, participation was assessed from a normative point of view, highlighting issues related to the decision-making power, leadership and mandate of each segment. In a survey carried out in the minutes of election, quantitative data of registrants were tabulated to compete for the role of representative member in the composition of the CPA, verifying the adhesion and / or interest of each category to compete in the election. Starting from a qualitative-quantitative approach to data from the minutes of meetings, the form of performance, involvement and frequency of each category was observed. The results demonstrate that there is a significant imbalance of participation between the three representations of the community. Therefore, it is necessary to build strategies to promote equity in participation between representations, placing them in positions of equal involvement, power and influence.

• This dissertation is presented in a collection format, composed by two articles, and had the objective of investigating the conceptions of quality used by professors of different undergraduate courses of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). The first article, titled Quality of Brazilian Higher Education: A model of analysis, sought to present the different concepts and categories of quality that exist in the literature and to discuss the use of these definitions in the practice of Brazilian Higher Education. For this, it was based on books on quality in education, articles and in the references contained in the works found. This first work was structured in three main sections, addressing the historical development and the use of the concept of quality in education; presentation of the concepts and categorizations found in the literature and, finally, the formalization of a proposal for quality analysis. It was found that the concepts, although varied, can be grouped based on the political perspective in which they were thought, however, categorizations do not reflect this form of organization. It is concluded that, in order to analyze quality in education, it is necessary to start from the political bias found between concepts, resulting in the creation of two categories, critical quality and instrumental quality. The second article, titled Quality in Brazilian Higher Education: The teaching perspective, sought to identify and understand the UFBA faculty conception about the quality of undergraduate courses. For this, we used semi-structured interviews with 12 teachers of varied courses, being possible to identify the main quality descriptors in their speeches and to verify that, for the most part, they think of Higher Education through the critical quality. In addition, it was observed the emergence of common themes among them, indicating that the quality of education should be based on reflections on the topics listed.

• The Interdisciplinary Bachelor in Health (BIS) starts with a proposal of innovative experience in health education, structured from the promotion of health and the perspective of a cultural and epistemological reform of the healthcare model. In this context, the present work aims to understand the conceptions of health and illness of the newly enrolled students and BIS graduates of the Federal University of Recôncavo of Bahia (UFRB). This is a qualitative, exploratory and analytical study, involving 70 newly enrolled students from a universe of 90 and 18 of the 28 graduates, from September 2016 to February 2017. The data produced were inserted in the Microsoft Excel software and analyzed according to the thematic analysis proposed by Bardin (2009). The first article analyzes the health conceptions of these students from the following categories: well-being, balance / harmony, quality of life, absence of illness, lifestyle, normality and others. The second article aims to understand the conceptions of disease from the following categories: altered well-being, pathological state, changes in quality of life, imbalance and / or disharmony, functional disability and abnormality. In both articles, a greater diversity of perception of health and illness was observed in the group of students who are new entrants than in those of the graduates. Therefore, there is a standardization of understanding of health and disease among the latter. It was also evidenced, in both articles, that no graduate had reductionist and negative conceptions of health and disease, while some new students had them. In this way, the contribution of interdisciplinary formation is evident to overcome some reductionist and negative conceptions of health.

• After almost 40 years since counting the first cases of HIV infection, it is estimated that by June 2018, in Brazil alone, 982,129 people have contracted the virus. HIV / AIDS is a multiple-sided disease that can be influenced by a variety of factors, whether demographic, socio-spatial, financial, gender, etc. There are several fields of knowledge that study it, including the Social Representations approach. Objective: to analyze the Social Representations of university students, participants in an extension project on HIV / AIDS. Methodology: This is a quantitative and qualitative study, carried out in two moments, with students from the Interdisciplinary Bachelor Degree, from the Federal University of Bahia, who participated in the University Extension Project AIDS: Educar para Demythologica, in the years 2017 and 2018. In a The first step was to identify the structure of students' representations about HIV. Next, the Social Representations themselves were discussed. For data collection, the Free Word Association Test (TALP) was used, as well as semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed with the help of the theoretical and methodological contribution of the Theory of Social Representations, proposed by Moscovici, and the Bardin Content Analysis, in order to explore the complexity of participants' responses. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of the School of Nursing of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and the participants signed a Free and Informed Consent Term (TCLE). Results and Discussion: Contrary to what happens in 10 other Brazilian states, HIV / AIDS detection rates in the state of Bahia show an upward trend, with 11% more in 2017 than in 2007. Cases are concentrate for men and women in the 25-39 age group. Regarding the representational structure of students about HIV, it is perceived that their Central Nucleus is constituted by the idea of disease, although there is now a health care that can prevent the onset of AIDS. The analysis of the TALP and the interviews made possible a series of reflections, especially on the perception that the young people have about the non-use of the condom. According to them, this practice is the main risk behavior towards HIV infections, but they end up not being considered exposed to this risk, practicing unprotected sex. This indicates a possible transference of vulnerability perception, when in some way associate infections with certain 'groups' or specific situations. Considerations: Although there are works on social representations related to HIV / AIDS, the theme deals with several issues, not just the virus or the syndrome. Knowledge and perceptions of aspects that are directly or indirectly related to the virus, such as risk behaviors, forms of transmission, treatment, etc., were identified. It has also been realized that certain individual and collective aspects may exert influences on these representations. It can be affirmed that HIV carries to this day a series of elements related to health and disease processes, such as vulnerability factors, forms of contagion prevention, sociocultural factors, pauperization, among others. Taking these issues into consideration, as well as the increase in infections among young people, it is of great importance to encourage research and actions aimed specifically at the university population. In addition, it should also be encouraged to create spaces for dialogues, where students can express their opinions, doubts and questions

• The Center for Studies and Therapy of Drug Abuse (CETAD), created in 1985 from a university extension project operated by the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Bahia, has been recognized nationally as a space for the production of knowledge and practices of care and attention to alcohol and other drugs users. The present work sought to investigate this pioneering experience, still in operation, analyzing the institutional development of this service, from the professional trajectory of the teacher responsible for the creation and coordination of the center in the period 1985-2013, trying to relate this process to the development of the field of drug users attention in Brazil. We take as a theoretical reference the relational and systemic conception about the social, elaborated by the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, specifically the concept of scientific field and the understanding of the diversity of capitals - economic, social, political, symbolic - that agents (actors) accumulate/deplete throughout their social trajectories. Interviews were conducted with the already mentioned professor, along with the analysis of documents produced throughout CETAD's history, in order to structure a time line punctuated by the main activities carried out in the period 1985-2013. In this way, the coordinator of the center acquired great scientific capital and technical power, which began to be used to propose ruptures in the approach to the use of alcohol and other drugs, inserting new discourses and practices, which distanced themselves from the traditional medical model and introduce a look at the subject and the social, always guided by the freedom and autonomy of users. This perspective, coupled with the fact that the Center is linked to the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, within the scope and a public university, allowed a great creative freedom, generating the experimentation and institutionalization of several care devices that served as reference for the construction of public policies at the state and federal levels.

• This study seeks to reflect on the training of teachers in the perspective of inclusion of people with disabilities in regular education. A systematic review of the national scientific production on the training of teachers in the perspective of inclusive education was carried out. The time frame of the research corresponds to the period from 2006 to 2016. The analysis and discussion approach is based on the bibliographical research, based on the survey of studies in the national base of journals of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo). The study has a quantitative-qualitative approach, through a bibliographic review based on 21 articles that discuss the issue of teacher education in the perspective of inclusive education in Brazil. The studies presented discussions about teacher education and inclusion policies, highlighting the need to discuss the context of teacher education, as well as addressing the need for changes in the models of teacher training courses. It was verified that the policies of inclusion in Brazil require a new perspective for teacher education. It was clear that higher education institutions are providing a lack of education, so many proposals for an urgent reform of the bachelor's degree have been signaled, because in order to play an inclusive role, the teacher needs training that empowers him.

• The University Management in brazilian institutions has shown its social
function, and the relevant role in the effort to reduce social inequalities in which
it is inserted. Particularly for population segments that have historically become
vulnerable by the scorn of education, especially in higher education. However,
innovation in the academic field and its constant improvement causes tensions
on the policies of social equalizations through education, especially in what
concerns the bustle about actions of ethno-racial quotas and their applicability.
In the Medicine undergraduate programs, the questions about the effectiveness
of quotas and their application are still the subject of judicial disputes. The
decisions of them have repercussions in the administrative sphere of the
University, as well as in the pedagogical management of the institutions. How to
face this judicialization in a context of increasing promotion of legal disputes for
the implementation of social rights is a question of the present work. It aims to
understand the phenomenon of judicialization of the affirmative university policy,
its impact on institutional management, and the meanders involving the
implementation of public and institutional actions to promote ethno-racial equity
through education. It proposes the investigation of the interfaces between the
exercise of the university autonomy and the legal interference in cases of
contestation of the adoption of quota policies in the federal universities of Bahia.
It has as a research methodology the participant observation in the contexts of
the University’s ethnic measurement processes together with the technique of
content analysis on decisions obtained from court lawsuits on the subject. By
observing context performance of the university management administrative
body executor of the respective policy, and the appraisal of the judicial
decisions that deal with the questioning of quotas and self-determination,
arguments and hypotheses are drawn for the aforementioned judicialization and
its repercussions on the mission of racial inequalities by the public university.

the subject Teacher’s Evaluation by the Student (TES) with emphasis on Brazilian
higher education. The methodology included a bibliographic review of scientific
articles using seven descriptors for search and selection of articles indexed in the
databases of Portal de Periódicos Capes, Google Scholar and Scientific Electronic
Library Online (SciELO). The research explored the literature from 1993 to 2017. A
total of 26 selected papers were read in order to obtain information about the year of
publication, type of study, topics covered and journals in which they were published.
The analysis of the data allowed the identification of five themes: Purposes (what for
is evaluated?); Dimensions (what is evaluated?); Instruments (how do you rate it?);
Visions (of teachers and students - what is the view/perception of these actors about
the process?); and Biases (what are the biases, limitations and problems pointed out
in the studies?). The results point to the presence of articles of the empirical type, all
of which deal with undergraduate courses and indicate an increasing trend in the
number of papers published since 2008. The literature review provides an overview
of the main issues related to the subject of TES and discusses the main implications
for its implementation in university practice.

• Differentiated curricular proposals, denominated innovators, were constructed in a context of democratization of the access and interiorization of federal universities. The academic restructuring of Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), proposed after joining the Federal University Restructuring and Expansion Plans Support Program (REUNI), is presented especially through the Pedagogical Projects of the Interdisciplinary Baccalaureate and similar. The curricular structures in those projects are justified by the need to overcome a conventionally existing fragmented and unilinear system. After a decade of the proposal, it is necessary to contrast the political and conceptual narratives of academic innovation from the accomplishment of the courses of Interdisciplinary Bachelor in Health and in Exact and Technological Sciences according to the Orientation Guidelines for Bachelor's and Interdisciplinary and suchlike, the Institutional Political Pedagogical Projects and the instituting acts from that reality at UFRB from 2008 up to 2017. This paper was carried out through a qualitative, phenomenological study, which sought to produce data, describe and interpret in order to understand the contextualized reality and put in a challenge, contrasting the (dis) connections between the established political forces, instituted and the instituting processes within the framework of the tensions related to the disputes of the controlling dimensions present in the institution forged on the basis of the logic of thought and the cogs of modernity. It was verified that the established policy was not enough for UFRB's full adherence to the cycle model, however, the protagonists of the teachers involved are highlighted, who supported by management, have made innovation possible and organic. It was also evident that the establishment of innovative curriculum policies is not sufficient to influence the curricular restructuring of existing curricula, but maintains the curriculum in the institution at all times.

• Many sociologists of religion have recently argued about secularization, claiming that what has been diminishing over time is not personal belief but religious institutional practice. With the growing interest and number of scientific publications in the field of R/E and health in the last 20 years, there are numerous studies that have identified a positive relationship between religiosity/spirituality and health, both physical and mental. There is also evidence that R/E is an important dimension for most people, especially when they are sick, and that many patients want these issues to be included in their primary health care. However, there are still few professionals who approach this theme in the meeting with the patient, mainly because they are not prepared for it. Although most American schools have R/E and health education in medical undergraduate curricula, this education is still precarious and flawed. Most primary health care professionals had no contact with the topic during graduation. Many R/E and health courses and disciplines have been offered in primary care training, especially in family medicine, in an attempt to better prepare these professionals for comprehensive and multidisciplinary care that includes the spiritual dimension. However, much remains to be investigated, especially regarding the specific actions of spiritual care, how to approach the R/E with the patient, how to teach this topic in medical curricula and what are the most effective teaching methodologies for transforming the clinical practice of patients. primary health care professionals. The present review showed that the frequency of approaching R/E in primary care practices is still low, and that there are many challenges to the insertion of this theme in the clinical meeting. On the other hand, there is a large participation of professionals of this level of attention both in the provision of spiritual care and in the scientific production of the area. Among the PHC specialties, family physicians are the ones who most seek to know the spiritual/religious beliefs of their patients, as well as the residency or specialization program that most promotes training focused on this theme. In the educational field, there are already many examples of strategies and teaching tools in R/E and health that can serve as a source and support new initiatives towards the realization of this teaching in undergraduate medical and postgraduate courses in primary care. Cheers. However, the consistency and effectiveness of this teaching is still unknown, since there is little research that seeks to evaluate the methodologies used and the interventions performed. Thus, the inclusion of R/E in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in health is essential, and the expansion of this teaching to different realities, contexts and professional categories, so that health professionals can develop a broader clinical practice. integral and humanized/humanizing.

• An Institutional Repository is a tool that allows the storage, preservation and memory of a university, raising the visibility of academic and scientific production. Making available the knowledge produced in Federal Higher Education Institutions is one of the pillars that supports the existence of repositories. The democratization of access to information is an integral part of the Open Access Movement, from which the repositories originated. In this sense, this study aims to verify how the availability of content resulting from the scientific production of Area I postgraduate courses has been available, from 2010 to 2018 in the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Bahia. Thus, the objective was to analyze the availability of content resulting from scientific production in the Postgraduate Programs of Area I between 2010 and 2018 in the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Bahia, through the systematic observation of the subcommunities of the postgraduate programs in the repository; as well as the identification of the types of documents inserted, and investigate with the course coordinators, the criteria used by the programs to insert academic and scientific production in this virtual environment. To achieve the proposed objectives, we adopted with data collection instrument, the systematic observation of subcommunities in the Repository and program homapage, as well as the application of a questionnaire to Area I graduate coordinators, through the SurveyMonkey tool. The research has a qualitative and quantitative nature, which aims to describe the phenomena in a categorized and numerical way. The structure of this paper is divided into: presentation; methodological route; article published in the magazine Acesso Livre, entitled “Panorama of information consumption: from orality to the open access movement”; second article published, now in the magazine Pesquisa Brasileira em Ciência da Informação e Biblioteconomia, entitled “Scientific Communication in the UFBA Institutional Repository: Survey in Area I”. Then we present the analysis and discussion of the results, divided into three subsections. Finally, we bring the final considerations with recommendations for future work. The study reveals the need for intervention by the higher levels of the institution, within the academic and scientific community, to leverage the use and availability of content in the Institutional Repository, not as another local and superficial database, as some coordinators put, but as a space for preservation, memory and visibility of the institution. In any case, we considered that the study was satisfactory, as it allowed the identification of possible obstacles and difficulties of the university Area I, for the availability of open access content. We find that for the most part, programs tend to encourage content insertion, but still irrelevant, with no procedural definitions or even incentives.

The research individuals were graduating students of the 2018.2 semester and professors of the course. The data collection was realized through semistructured interviews from November, 2018 to February, 2019. The data were analyzed based on the content analysis technique. It was observed that the environmental theme was present in the student’s education, mainly, through teaching activities; in extension courses, some actions were developed, although, in the research area, the presence of environmental discussion was little noticed. The interdisciplinary perspective and the health’s expanded concept developed in the course provided the debate about environmental themes, as well as the activities developed in the outer community. The professors have a wider understanding about the environment and its relation with health, but the systemic conception needs to be strengthened in the educational process, considering that some students have not assimilated this understanding.

From this perspective, a research was conducted within the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Health (IBH) course at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (FURB), with the aim of analyzing how these were used as ATLM by the documents involved in the Curriculum Component Reality Appropriation Process (RAP). This is a descriptive and analytical study that adopted Paulo Freire's problematic theoretical and pedagogical framework and contemplated the application of a questionnaire to 10 IBH-FURB teachers who taught or RAP throughout five semesters of the course, as well as an analysis. documents containing information about the pedagogical project and menus, public domain documents about the course and other documents available to the research subjects. The selected, permitted results describe the IBH-FURB pedagogical project and analyze the content and application activities under the RAP, and then describe the document management, planning and development activities at IBH, which makes the context in which a course deployment will be developed. That said, we present the profile of the teachers interviewed and the programs of the various modules and the answers about the use of ATLM. Based on the findings, we discuss the relevance of RAP in the pedagogical project of IBH, as it deals with a space of articulation between the university and the community, which enables students and teachers to produce knowledge about the health reality of the population in the city where they live. FURB is inserted, as long as the development of skills is allowed or the use of skills for future professionals working in the health system. The importance of using ATLM in the various RAP modules is emphasized, but it does not apply to them. Despite the reference indices used, there is a certain weakness in knowledge and domain-methods, concluding that a greater incentive is used. For documents for use as ATLM, continuing education activities on this topic are recommended

The results indicate that the political space in question was fruitful for the creation of new personal and collective paradigms and discoveries, but also revealed to be (re)producer of the violence and gender inequalities that cross society. Thus, the process of becoming a leader involved a movement of assimilation of the dominant political culture through the learning of its rules and codes, and its disruption to build a new political culture, governed by other values that enable distinct practices capable of create powerful and plural spaces. • Between the late 1980s and the first half of the 1990s, Evidence-Based Medicine
(EBM) was introduced as a new paradigm for medical practice, which proposed new
epistemological foundations for clinical decision-making, lowering as much as possible
epistemic value for intuition, clinical experience and pathophysiological reasoning, and
maximizing the evidence obtained through randomized controlled trials (RCT). It
claimed the reform of medical education and training to provide clinicians with the
skills and techniques for evidence evaluation through systematic review of available
scientific literature. Immediately after the publication of the Evidence-Based Medicine
Working Group manifesto in the ACP Journal Club (1991) and the Journal of the
American Medical Association (JAMA, 1992), controversies about EBM's ideas and
proposals started focusing mainly on the epistemological bases and the ethical aspects
of the proposal, and has remained to this day. At that time, a specific journal (British
Medical Journal - Evidence Based Medicine or BMJ-EBM) was created, while special
issues of medical journals accumulated criticism and debate (e.g., Journal of
Evaluation of Clinical Practice). In this paper, we will discuss controversies around
EBM since the 1990s, precisely in these journals (JAMA, BMJ, Journal of Evaluation of
Clinical Practice), as well as The Lancet, which undertook the first institutional
reaction to EBM. We will continue these controversies until 2018, when a major crisis
broke out within the Cochrane Collaboration. The goal is to present a broader, more
complex and richer view of EBM, besides the instrumental view as commonly found in
its manuals and tutorials. The expectation is to promote reflections and critical
thinking to balance the predominant influences of the concepts and methods of the
analytical sciences and technologies, and their impacts not only on medicine, but also
on medical education, and on the wider field of healthcare. Depois de realizada a
análise das controvérsias em torno da EBM, concluímos que para problematizar
criticamente o que sejam as melhores evidências científicas, seus limites e
possibilidades, é de grande relevância uma base histórica, epistemológica e ética.

• This dissertation addresses crucial questions about interdisciplinarity. Its general objective is

to understand the interdisciplinary conceptions and practices of professors from the
Professor Milton Santos Institute of Humanities, Arts and Sciences of the Federal University of
Bahia (IHAC-UFBA). They teach the curriculum components' Studies on Contemporaneity I
'and' Studies on Contemporaneity II ', discussing its limits, its possibilities and the challenges
of interdisciplinarity in the Interdisciplinary Bachelors of this Institute. Initially, the researcher
did an integrative review using 29 articles indexed in the Scielo.org database and published
between 2014 and 2018. In this review, interdisciplinarity was contextualized historically and
philosophically, problematizing its conceptual, methodological, ideological and practical
aspects related to higher education. Subsequently, he moved to the field research phase
through semi-structured interviews with eleven professors of the curriculum components
mentioned above. A participant observation was also developed in the classroom
environment of four of these professors. From these observations, a field diary was used in
the data analysis step. From the integrative review and field research, the results showed that
the interdisciplinary paradigm has grown in academic environments, especially in
postgraduate research. Characterized as multi-conceptual, polysemic and multifaceted,
interdisciplinarity encompasses complex ways of understanding the new hyperdynamic
structure of knowledge. However, even growing, there are several resistances to such
renewals, still very present in academia, since the various obstacles to interdisciplinarity are
still obstacles to further expansion of teaching and research in the interdisciplinary
framework. Regarding teaching practices, it was identified that many of them are also
performed in the disciplinary context, being here considered as interdisciplinary by the way
they are performed. Finally, as a result of this work, the researcher presents reflections
resulting from problematizations elaborated during the analyzes, which focus was directed to
the teaching action, whose function is to mediate the learning, promoting the critical-
reflexive autonomy of its students.

• This dissertation provides information about the profile and performance of students who entered in the most popular course at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), in 2012, after reserving 20% of the vacancies of all UFBA undergraduate courses for graduating students of Interdisciplinary Bachelor Degrees (BI). BI is a new modality of undergraduate course implemented in the institution in 2009, which promoted a significant change in the curricular structure of the university, due to its interdisciplinary, flexible and broader formative proposal that values the autonomy of students in their education. Reserving vacancies for students who have completed interdisciplinary Bachelor degrees in the most demanding and, consequently, the most sought after courses has brought to light the old discussion of meritocracy, quality and excellence of teaching and the questioning regarding the difference in performance of students graduating from the university BI in a course of high prestige as is the case of the medical course. The objective of this research was to verify if there is a difference of academic performance and socioeconomic characteristics among the students of the Medical School of the Federal University of Bahia who joined in 2012. The students were classified in two distinct groups according to their form of admission: coming from the entrance exam selection processes and graduates of the Interdisciplinary Bachelor. One hundred and sixty-two students were considered, of which 130 were admitted through college entrance exams and 32 were graduates from the Interdisciplinary Bachelor. From the analysis of the data related to the student profile, differences were found in the variables of gender, age, year of high school completion and father's educational background, but these differences are justified by the current trend in other universities, by the predominance of women in BI courses, or just because BI students have already attended 3 years of higher education, influencing variables such as the time of completion of high school and age of entry into medical school. Based on the study of the students' academic performance, some significant differences were verified when the form of admission with some variables was combined, being considered positive in all of them to the group of students admitted through the entrance exam. When applying the tests considering only the form of admission, this positive difference for the entrance exam group was confirmed with an average CR of 7.797 while the BI admission students presented an average CR equal to 7.331. It was also possible to determine that the highest averages were found, in this research, among private school, with tanned complexion, female and with family income greater than 40 minimum wages.

• Speaking about the democratization of higher education, it refers us mainly to the discussion of the access of social groups historically excluded from the educational process to the Brazilian Universities. The visibility of these minority groups has been a priority in the field of Affirmative Action policies, which advocate the eradication of inequalities and all forms of discrimination. Healing these differences also requires the provision of a quality higher education and dialogue with the specifics of the new student. This dissertation analyzes the strategies of access and permanence forged by students living in the remaining communities of Quilombo at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia. It is a qualitative study, with an exploratory and descriptive character, with an ethnographic basis. The techniques used to gather the information were the comprehensive interview, participant observation, field diaries. The data show that the challenges are present even before joining the institution in view of the precarious conditions of access to a formal education of quality and access to information that allows to include higher education as a future project. As for admission to university, the obstacles are in competition with the question of the certification of their community, a document necessary for the proof and recognition of their origin, and which allows the candidate to compete for a post in public higher education. With regard to university permanence, the challenges are even greater and indicate that the material needs to finance course expenses and meet students' basic needs are imperative. In the symbolic aspect, the results reveal the need for reflection on the academic curriculum and teaching practices that allow the student to identify with the university environment, at the same time that is recognized with its specificities, resignified to itself, being present with its culture, experience and worldview in the apprehension of knowledge. In a context of innumerable obstacles that allow a qualified stay in the university, it is possible to identify informal coping strategies that reveal above all the construction and strengthening of bonds between quilombola students that allow the union of forces to claim their rights and minimize the effects negatives of this moment in the educational trajectory and the construction of an actor and social group engaged and reflective about their needs and rights.

• In 2005 the National Culture Plan (PNC) was inserted in the 3rd paragraph of the article 215 of the 1988 Brazilian
Federal Constitution. Based on the Programa Mais Cultura nas Universidades (More Culture in the Universities
Program), originated from the PNC goals, this work aims to trace an historic overview, highlighting the
emergence of a debate proposing a brand new link between the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of

Education, in order to stimulate the development of cultural plans for the Federal High Education. Taking
theoretical references about cultural policies as a starting point, this review considers the PMCU as a new
government act aiming the necessary care for the scenario that was consolidating in Brazil, where culture starts
to be treated as fundamental in political, economical and social processes. Therefore, this research talks about
the available conditions the public universities have for artistic and cultural management, considering it's
students training, but, mostly important, thinking about extra academic relationships between the university and
the society, through interviews and analysis of the culture plans submitted to the Programa Mais Cultura nas
Universidades (More Culture in the Universities Program) through Universidade Federal da Bahia (Federal
University of Bahia) and Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia (Federal University of the "Recôncavo" of
Bahia). The obtained diagnosis concludes that the universities need an integrated management, without limiting
it to activities developed by the offices of community services or by the arts programs' final products. Regarding
to the conditions, it is necessary to guarantee to the university management legal basis in order to allow
required flexibility and infrastructure for and effective dialogue between education, culture and art.

• The disciplinary formation, characterized by the fragmentation of knowledge, results from series of historical, social and political processes that impacts education, especially for contemporary higher education. In the context of universities, Undergraduate education represents a complex action, being an important academic tradition mission. In the last decades, Brazilian public universities underwent changes that aimed at the democratization of higher education and the re-signification of curricular and pedagogical architecture, resulting in the emergence of innovative proposals in the form of formation cycles, such as Interdisciplinary Bachelor's Degrees (BI). In this study, BI are understood as a more flexible, integrated, interdisciplinary and progressive formation that have been causing tensions in the context of its implementation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the development and current state of the Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree in Health (BIS) as a proposal for a first cycle of general and introductory formation with interdisciplinary bases, from the implementation of the Medicine course at the Federal University of Reconcavo da Bahia (UFRB). The Health Sciences Center (CCS) was the place chosen to carry out the research, which is located in the city of Santo Antônio de Jesus. This study followed the steps of a qualitative research in the approach of institutional ethnography, aiming at an understanding of the reality of the involved subjects, based on the meanings attributed by them to the context they experienced. The data were produced through the comprehensive interview, the documentary analysis and the participant observation, being all the research accompanied by records in the field diary. Six interviews were arranged, being the subjects five students and one professor, which are members of the CCS academic community. The analysis of the data, based on the subjects' narratives, allowed the understanding of the different points of view about the impacts in the health courses caused by the implantation of the cycle regime, especially with the medical course presence. The study revealed that this model, implemented since the first semester of 2014, caused changes in a climate of great institutional tension. The results indicate that the process is still consolidating, pointing to the necessity for CCS/UFRB to persist in its proposal for formation innovation, grounded on interdisciplinarity that is coherent with the nowadays new demands.

• This dissertation, presented in the collection format, consisted of two articles, sought to investigate the theme of “organizational values”. The first article, titled ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES: A STUDY OF NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION, BETWEEN 2012 AND 2016, IN THE AREAS OF ADMINISTRATION, PSYCHOLOGY AND INTERDISCIPLINARY, sought to present the current scenario of national scientific production on organizational values and its relation with traditional areas (Administration and Psychology) and contemporary areas (Interdisciplinary). For this purpose, scientific articles on the subject published between 2012 and 2016 in 23 national journals – online version, A classification, in the areas of Administration, Psychology and / or Interdisciplinary, according to the Qualis Periódicos evaluation system of Capes, 2014, were analyzed. The research was divided into four stages: survey of the journals; selection of the journals; surveys and analysis of the articles; characterization of the articles, including data related to authorship, methodology, and approach to organizational values. At the end, 31 articles were analyzed. A multiplicity of authors and a predominance of qualitative, empirical research of the case study type – employing the questionnaire as the main instrument of data collection – were observed. The second article (main research), titled THE ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES AT THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF BAHIA (UFBA): DECLARED VALUES AND PERCEIVED VALUES, sought to understand the organizational values of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), through two strategies: (1) to ascertain the perception (perceived values) that its employees have in relation to existing and practiced values at the University, through the Inventory of Organizational Values Profiles (IPVO); (2) identify the values espoused by top management (declared values), through content analysis of the main documents of the University. The results demonstrated that, in the perception of the staff, the Prestige and Tradition factors are the main values of the organization, while the Employees and Domain Welfare factors occupied the last positions in the hierarchy. This perception is shared by different groups. In the documentary analysis, the factors Concern with the Collectivity and Autonomy were identified as the most espoused in the texts while the Employee’s Tradition and Welfare factors were the least prominent. It was observed a significant distinction between the values declared in the documents and the values perceived by the servers, which could compromise the functioning and development of the organization. The knowledge acquired during the study could apply to strategies to improve university governance and contribute to the achievement of the mission and institutional objectives.

• Studies on Religious and Spirituality (R/S) in the academic formation in health have been carried out by researchers and professionals from different areas. However, the national scientific production on the subject is still scarce, with gaps that interfere in the debate and insertion of this theme in higher education. Objectives: The present dissertation intends to know how the Religious and Spirituality (R/S) is worked in the academic formation of health courses in Brazil. Two studies were carried out. The first one had the objective to characterize the scientific production about R/S in the academic training of health courses in Brazil. The second study aimed to identify the theoretical references that have been used to address this issue in higher education in health in Brazil. Methodology: This is an integrative bibliographical review, using articles as bibliographic sources, researched in the databases: Scielo, Pubmed, Medline, Scopus, Portal of Periodicals of CAPES and Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). Using the descriptors spirituality, religiosity, graduate and health. Articles in English, Portuguese and Spanish were included in this review. Results: Twenty-three publications were analyzed, categorized into four areas of health training. The nursing area led the publication of papers about R/S in academic education, comprising 52,1% (12/23) of the publications found. The area of medicine was the second most studied, with 34,7% (08/23) of the publications included in this study. The area of psychology was studied by 8,7% (02/23) and the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Health (BIS) of UFBA was studied by 4,3% (01/23) of the papers included in this review. Conclusion: In general, most researchers, professionals, students and teachers recognize the need and relevance of R/S in the academic training of health courses in Brazil. However, it is noted that the undergraduate health programs in Brazil still do not treat these contents comprehensively. A wide variety of definitions are observed to address the R/S concepts, which makes it imperative to homogenise the meanings and conduct multicentric research that can contribute to the systematization of concepts and their insertion in the academic field. In this sense, it will be possible to grant patients/users a humanized health care, that considers all dimensions of the human being and that promotes values in keeping with the paradigm of integrality in health.

• The scientific initiation is an important ally on the process of academic training of the
students. The sooner he gets into research and extension programs, more
probabilities of succeed in academic life. This is because the student is engaged in a
lot of activities that go beyond the academic curriculum of the classroom, making
possible the effective experience with research and guidance. Thus, the student that
participates of scientific initiation also become a researcher in training. In this sense,
this dissertation seeks to discuss the contribution of the Tutorial Education Program
(PET) on the formation of the students from Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da
Bahia. PET is a program that has existed since 1998, when UFRB was still an
agronomy school from UFBA, that focused on the teaching, research and extension
providing a broad training to the students and tutors. It is important to emphasize that
the program is known nationally, and it‟s also present in other Brazilian universities.
Previously known as Especial Training Program, in 2010, has been expanded and
merged with the Program Conexão de Saberes, creating two modalities of groups,
that is, PET course and PET Conexões. In this way of thought, this research sought
to understand how the students and tutors evaluate the experience of being into the
program, therefore, two researches were made: a quantitative one with the students
and a qualitative one with the tutors. The principal results show that both measure
the program in positive ways, such in academic and professional life as in personal
life, as well as identifying the contribution of the program to UFRB. Also, both
recognize that the program, even with the positive impacts, still has a lot to improve,
especially in the way of evaluating and sharing informations.

• This research work aimed to investigate the reflection of the Alfa Tuning Latin America Project in the Pedagogical Project of Course and Civil Engineering, of the Federal University of Uberlândia.. This research was motivated by the interested in observing the university in the face of proposal writing to higher education at the international level, by means of analysing documents which composed the Alfa Tuning Latin America Project and the aforementioned Course Pedagogical Project. The Alfa Tuning Latin America Project was expanded from the Tuning Europe Project with the aim of establishing a Common Area of Higher Education in Latin America from the curricular convergence between the courses of the participating universities. Nine Brazilian Federal Higher Education Institutions participated in the Alfa Tuning Latin America Project, among which, the Course Pedagogical Project for Civil Engineering at the Federal University in Uberlândia was selected for being elaborated with the purpose of following the Alfa Tuning Latin America Project and being easily available on the Internet. The investigation developed into this work observed the selected documents in order to identify the rapprochement between the international proposal and the undergraduate course elected in the competences and credits system axis. The methodology used in this research followed the documentary analysis and bibliography. It was noticed a proximity between the Alfa Tuning Latin America Project and the Course Pedagogical Project with regard to the competences, whereas the credit system of the course pedagogical project did not follow the domains of the international project.

• Understanding that student housing appears to be a important mechanism for student maintenance, this article aims to analyze this theme, identifying the main approaches and national discussions already developed, taking into account the most recent production, covering the period from 2000 to 2017. The survey of the works was carried out with the main virtual libraries existing databases in the human sciences area, repositories of the largest Brazilian universities as well as references to articles and the following descriptors: student housing, university management; student assistance and university, with 16 papers selected. The titles identified and analyzed were later grouped into two categories, namely: the management of the dwellings from the point of view of the resources allocated and the difficulties experienced by the resident students. The work shows that it is necessary to opportune the inclusion of support activities in addition to the financial aid, making the housing allow the real inclusion of the student in the university, supplying their essential needs, providing greater adaptation to the university environment. Thus, since the analyzed works demonstrated the importance of living in the student housing as apt to bring development to the students, appearing as an important activity of the university.

• The ethical processes involving university professors for teaching transpersonal psychology, followed by the success of the appeal, and the cases in which professionals tried to defend themselves against accusations of religious proselytism, claiming to practice transpersonal psychology motivated this investigation. Considering academic and professional ethics, an analysis of this problem is necessary. Course objective: To analyze the process of recognition and non-recognition of transpersonal psychology in the university. Specific objectives: 1) To discuss the boundary-work in brazilian psychology regarding transpersonal psychology in the university; 2) To analyze the ethical aspects of the relationship between psychology, spirituality and religion. Method: The making of two articles, through the method of boundary-work and narrative literature review. Main results: political motivations interfere in the university curricula. Secularity consists in the conviviality between different worldviews, in which one specific worldview does not stands out to another. The same principle that was used to block transpersonal psychology, when seen in its full meaning, may be the argument for its recognition. The criterion of recognition of a practice should be based on ethics and the respect for human rights. Final considerations: Abstaining from the discussion about religion, spirituality and secularity results in a formative deficiency that does not prepare professionals for these ethical issues. The ability to identify political acts present in the scientific activity is important for the ethics, and the knowledge about these themes can help discern between religious proselytism and epistemological plurality involving spirituality.
