Sleep quality of undergraduates of the interdisciplinary baccalaureate in health at the Federal University of Bahia
Sleep. Students. Graduation
This work, with a quantitative, exploratory and descriptive approach, aims to evaluate the quality of sleep of undergraduate students of the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Health (BIS) at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). For this, this research, carried out from the elaboration of a collection of articles that deal around this issue, was divided into two products: the first article deals with the quality of sleep of undergraduate BIS students at UFBA during the COVID pandemic -19 and was carried out based on the collection of primary data through a questionnaire applied to the students, containing questions related to socio-demographic characteristics and questions for measuring the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The second, in turn, was carried out with the aim of estimating the prevalence of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and associated factors in BIS undergraduate students at UFBA, and thus discusses the main factors associated with EDS in BIS students. The results of the articles contributed to identify a high prevalence of poor sleep quality and EDS in BIS students. Associations were also observed between sleep quality and modifiable and nonmodifiable variables. In addition, it was observed that, with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, most undergraduates noticed changes in their sleep. It is expected that this study will serve as a subsidy to foster discussions on the quality of sleep in undergraduates and interventions on sleep educational programs in higher education, increasing the level of knowledge about this subject among the academic community and the propagation of sleep habits healthier through activities and actions on sleep hygiene and on the importance of preventing poor sleep quality and EDS, which harm the well-being and health of students
