DIGITAL GAMES AND INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION IN SPANISH: possible dialogues?
Digital Games – Spanish – Interculturality – Migrations
The main objective of the research was to verify if a digital game about contemporary migrations, produced in Spain, is able to contribute to an intercultural education in Spanish language in Brazil. The theme “Intercultural Spanish Language Education from a Digital Game on Contemporary Migrations” was developed based on the main theoretical approaches of Applied Linguistics, Intercultural Education in Spanish Language, Public Policies and Information and Communication Digital Technologies. The digital game, main object of this investigation, was the Vuelta al mundo en 4 historias, distributed by the Young Red Cross of Spain, whose theme addresses several issues, such as: immigrants, cultures, migratory flows, prejudices, stereotypes, among others. As for the methodological procedures, taking into account the characteristic multimodality of digital games, the narrative sequences of the research object were analyzed, based on Social Semiotics. As a result, the investigation revealed that Vuelta al mundo en 4 historias is not suitable for Spanish language intercultural education in Brazil, as the game presents prejudiced, homogenizing and excluding passages and speeches. For this reason, this study is relevant to the production of digital games for Spanish language intercultural education in Brazil, since it highlights the positive and negative aspects of the construction of such a resource, whether in relation to its forms and/or its contents.
