Its object of study is the proper names of place, which are understood in the light of the Toponymy concepts like names able to reveal traces of the culture and the experiences of the man while his trajectory in the society to which it forms part. The corpus of this thesis was composed of 886 toponymes that refer to the village of the Identity Territory of the Bahia Recôncavo (SEI, 2013). These data were analyzed using the methodology proposed by the toponymist Dick (1990a, 1990b), using the following steps: collection of toponyms on IBGE maps or from governmental institutions; etymological analysis of names in order to identify the linguistic stratum to which the name belongs; classification of toponyms in taxonomies that reveal their semantic motivation and cataloging of the data in lexicographic-toponymic fiches. At the end of this information treatment it was observed that 383 toponyms are linked to a taxonomies that correspond to the anthropocultural semantic nature and 503 linked to the taxonomies that express a physical semantic nature. Among the main authors used are Aguilera (1999, 2006), Barickman (2003), Basílio (1987, 2004a, 2004b), Biderman (1978, 2001a, 2001b), Cardoso (2010), Dick (1990a, 199b, 1996, 2001, 2007), Dietrich (2015), Guiraud (1980), Isquerdo (1996), Labov (1983), Mattos e Silva (2006), Peirce (1975), Petter (2010, 2015), Sampaio ([1901] 1987) and Saussure (1969).
