LIBRAS interpreters' perception over deaf interpretation at health programs in Brazilian public health system

Deafpeopleseekpublichealthserviceslessfrequentlythanpatientswhouseorallanguage,as theydonotfeelcomfortableandwelcomedinthesespaces,sincethemajorityofpublichealth serviceprofessionalsarenottrainedtodoso.useofBrazilianSignLanguage(LIBRAS)often since their health training,whichcandirectly interferewithcare for thedeaf population. Seeking toalleviate communicationbarriersbetweendeaf peopleandpublicservicesasa whole, the LIBRAS IntermediationCenter (CIL)was created, implemented inBrazilian states,withoneof itsobjectivesbeing translation, interpretationandtraininginLIBRAS, facilitatingcommunicationbetweentheserviceandthedeafpersonthroughtheprofessional interpreter.Thisresearchproposestoanalyzeanddiscusstheperceptionsof theprofessional interpreteratCILinthecityofSalvadorregardinghealthworkfordeafpeople, focusingon theroleof theprofessional interpreter inintermediatingcommunicationbetweenthepublic healthserviceandtheuser.deaf.Thestudyisaqualitativeandsocial research, inwhichthe methodological resourceswill be interviewswithsemi-structuredscriptswithprofessional interpretersfromtheCILinthecityofSalvador(BA).Theinterviewswillbeaudiorecorded and transcribed. Themethodologyused toanalyze the interviewswillbecontent analysis fromtheperspectiveofLaurenceBardin. It ishopedthat thisstudywill contribute tothe scientific communityachange inhealthcarefor thedeafcommunity, thatbystudyingthe perceptionsof interpretersas themaintool forbringingdeafpeoplecloser totheservice, it willbepossibletoanalyzeinpracticehowtheyarebeingLaws,DecreesandPublicPolicies aredesignedandimplementedsothat thedeafpopulationbecomes theprotagonistof their healthprocessinanintegralway.
