EXPERIENCES OF VENTILATORY WEANING PATIENTS: IMPROVEMENT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL CARE PROTOCOL

The transition from mechanical ventilation to spontaneous ventilation generates emotional impacts for the patient admitted to the ICU. The objective of the research is to analyze the experiences of patients submitted to the ventilatory weaning process in the ICU of a public emergency hospital and, through this analysis, to improve the psychological intervention protocol for patients in ventilatory weaning admitted to the ICU. To this end, the exploratory qualitative method will be used, with the semi-structured interview as a data collection technique. Five patients over the age of 18 who underwent mechanical ventilation and underwent ventilatory weaning in the ICUs of the Hospital Geral de Vitória da Conquista will participate in the study. As a data analysis technique, Content Analysis will be used. It is intended to provide training with psychologists, residents and interns who work in the ICUs of the researched hospital to use the improved care protocol. It is expected that the results of this research will contribute to scientific advancement on the topic addressed, in addition to acting to promote the improvement of care provided to users of the Unified Health System (SUS).
