THE PUERPERIUM EXPERIENCE: CHALLENGES FOR CONJUGALITY
Psychology; Postpartum Period; Family Power
The transition to parenthood is one of the family events that brings the most changes to the family system. The arrival of the first child can favor the development of mental disorders in the parents and some specific situations can add greater complexity to the family adjustment. The present work has the general objective of identifying how the puerperium and the transition to parenthood interfered in the experience of conjugality and, as specific, to identify what are the stressful situations and challenges experienced by these couples during the puerperium, as well as their impact on family dynamics, in addition to the development of a technical reference for people in the postpartum period. This is an exploratory qualitative research, where four primiparous heterosexual couples in cohabitation conditions will be interviewed using a semi-structured script. With this research, it is expected to better understand how couples who have experienced the puerperium have developed strategies for coexistence and coping with conjugality, also helping to train health professionals and plan intervention programs aimed at the mental health of these subjects. In addition, this research will enable the return of these data to the scientific community through presentations at conferences and articles and the elaboration of the reference.
