SUMMARY:

The main objective of this work is to reflect on the obstacles faced by an online theater course, in the midst of a pandemic scenario, for students of Education for Young and Adult People (EPJA) of the Antonieta Xavier Siqueira Santos College (CEAXSS), of Euclides da Cunha, in the semi-arid region of Bahia. To do so, we followed the line of research Teaching and learning processes of creation and production in the arts, based on the action-research methodology. Another purpose of the research is to discuss the theatrical work and the production of an embryonic material, which was based on the life of the writer Carolina Maria de Jesus. The proposal was developed between the months of August and December 2021, at CEAXSS, initially with five students from a remote room of forty-two students, ending with three adult women, poor, two with children and all crossed by the similarity of their lives like Carolina Maria de Jesus, especially with regard to the educational aspect and the struggle for access to quality education. In addition to these points, the study brings a brief historical trajectory of the city of Euclides da Cunha-Bahia and its cultural dynamics, contextualizing the environment where these subjects studied before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is a research with the proposal to dialogue about the situation of these beings with art, thinking about the paths taken to circumvent the limitations increased by the pandemic, such as the lack of access to the digital world. It takes into account the interest in investigating the lack and the abyss that still exist between EPJA students and real access to theater production. The objective was achieved, as it was possible to promote different experiences in the group of students, broadening the understanding of the importance of art in everyday life and in citizenship education.
