THE CUMBE THEATER GROUPS: POLICIES AND CULTURAL MANAGEMENT IN THE BAHIAN SEMIARID

This master thesis analyses the cultural politics promoted by the Culture Secretary of the Bahia State (SecultBa) and its Cultural Foundation of the Bahia State (FUNCEB), from 2007 to 2019. The research concerns the prospects of the theater groups from Euclides da Cunha town, focusing in the perspective of the most experienced local cultural agents, and it includes the perspectives of ex public agents of SecultBa that worked in Semiárido Nordeste II territory. There are three chapters in this master thesis. The first one brings the concepts of territory and territory cultural politics, plus it approaches the local theater scene with the descriptions of the town theater groups. The second chapter is about the cultural politics of SecultBa and FUNCEB, focusing on the decentralization of their actions, from this point it is indicated the challenges of a public administration oriented to a countryside town, and, at last, it is highlighted local theater groups with the bigger expertise in performing arts. The last chapter is about different opinions from cultural agents interviewed about these topics. One of the contributions of this research is to contribute with cultural politics and public administration debates about countryside towns of the Bahia state.
