SUMMARY:

In this work, I start from the radical feminist conception that prostitution is a form of sexual exploitation and violence imposed mainly on women and girls by a series of social, economic, cultural and political factors that make up capitalist patriarchal societies; and also from the understanding that language, as an instrument for interpreting and reworking reality, has been acting as an efficient device in the process of normalizing this social phenomenon. In this sense, I seek to shed light on the use of language in the context of prostitution to denounce the pact between patriarchal and capitalist interests hidden by the conceptualization of prostitution as work. To do this, I propose, as a political gesture, a feminist translation of four chapters of the abolitionist book La prostitución en el corazón del capitalismo (2017), written by the sociologist Rosa Cobo. In this way, I explore ways of feminist appropriation of patriarchal language, one of the many possibilities of resistance to male domination.
