SUMMARY:

Through an exploration of artistic productions of African Diasporas in Germany and Brazil, this thesis aims to bring closer and memorialize poetics, conceived in Glissantian terms (1990), which take on dimensions of modes of being and living throughout this document. The construction of this archive/thesis is grounded in the substance and meanings derived from encounters with written and non-verbal texts, sung and silenced, disappeared and translated, spanning the temporal scope of production from the late 1970s to 2021/2022. Organized into four interconnected sections, the thesis provides a multifaceted and multimodal experience of African diasporic poetics, allowing for a non-linear reading that emphasizes fluidity and movement in approaching the theme. The first two sections, “DANÇAR / TANZEN” and “ESCUTAR / ZUHÖREN,” focus on delineating literary, critical, and political scenarios in both countries. They touch upon connected poetics, situational dissonances, and convergence with contemporary Afro-diasporic political movements, addressing textual productions and their respective translations. These sections also demonstrate critical gestures in approaching works by African diasporic artists that, contrary to national and/or linguistic parameters, incorporate aesthetic elements from African and Afro-diasporic roots. The third section, “ENCONTRAR / BEGEGNEN,” analyzes the forms and political projects of the volume Farbe bekennen (1986), a collectively authored work that intertwines different textual genres (poetry, scientific articles, interviews, image archives, etc.) into a single book. The chapter also delves into the political conditions that shaped its creation and publication, tracing its continuities in the German context and beyond. This analysis is extended to the examination of other German works that follow in the tradition of Farbe bekennen. The fourth and final section, “CONTINUAR / WEITERTRAGEN,” focuses on the author-researcher's experience during the doctoral internship in Berlin, exploring encounters and lived experiences, i.e., poetics of Relation in African and diasporic communities, with artists and artistic projects and imaginative experiences in this context. Additionally, this section continues the dialogue with anthologies of African diasporic texts in Germany, covering the period from 1992 to 2022. Throughout the thesis, poems, prefaces, event flyers, and exhibitions, along with personal archive material, are presented in translation and in relation, serving as an archive and reliquary.
