SUMMARY:

This work, result of a Case Study (CS), analyzed access conditions and the continuity
of deaf people in the Federal University of the Bahian Western – UFOB. The
enrollment of deaf people in Federal Universities has grown in the past years and the
big questions in this research inquired this access’ conditions and the continuity of this
audience in these institutions. To execute this CS at UFBO, I invited the deaf student
Gilvana Gomes Pimentel so we could have a dialogue about her experiences as a
college student in the sense to comprehend her academic trajectory in the countryside
of the State of Bahia, identifying the difficulties faced by her, as well as the strategies
used to overcome the challenges of being a deaf students at a regular Federal
University. Besides that, it was realized a bibliographical study about the research
theme, as well as a documental analyzes about the Laws, Decrees, and Normatives
which concerns Inclusion. This research justification happens in two contexts:
educational and social. Educational because it is imperative that the Laws concerned
to the Inclusive Education in the national and social ground are complied, because it is
necessary the reflection about the perspectives of the deaf people inclusion in society.
The research is referenced by the theoretical input of Inclusion, the Inclusive Public
Policies, the Applied Linguistics, and Literacy. Its objectives were: assess the access
conditions and the accessibility promoted by the inclusive public policies to the deaf
individuals in Federal Universities; describe the main barriers met by the deaf people in
their own educational process, identifying the strategies used by them to stay in the
Federal Universities; identify and analyze the Accessibility and Inclusion Nuclear
contributions (NAI) in the implementation of internal policies directed to the deaf people
at the Federal University of Bahian Western; assess the continuity conditions of deaf
people in this type of teaching; to propose an Action Plan to the Welcoming and the
Continuity of the deaf person at UFOB. The study showed the main problems met by
Gilvana in this scenario and planned some strategies to the minimizations or overcome
of these problems. As a contribution, I proposed an Action Plan to the Welcoming and
Staying of deaf people at UFOB.
