SUMMARY:

Several researches have focused, over time, on textbooks (DLs) for the teaching and learning of languages, especially with regard to the Portuguese language. Being such materials considered as examples of instruments guiding the pedagogical practice of the teacher in the classroom and capable of conveying models of literacies, both to teachers and students, the textbook can also be interpreted as a grid of sense production, being carrier/disseminator of various discourses and permeated by convergences and/or social divergences. This research, being an academic doctoral thesis in the field of Applied Linguistics, seeks to investigate which conception(s) of literacy(s) are susceptible to meanings and/or socio-discursive aspects to our ways of thinking and acting, is (are) published in portuguese language textbooks for the final years of elementary school, more specifically for the 8th and 9th grade classes offered in a public school located in the city of Amargosa-Bahia. Aware of how such conception(s) are related, being able to impact modes, spaces and situations experienced in our daily practices, this research is based on discussions undertaken by Bunzen (2005, 2014, 2017, 2020), Oliveira (2011), Street (2014), Jesus and Carbonieri (2016), Duboc (2016), Janks (2016), Müller (2018), Silva and Pereira (2018), Kalantzis, Cope and Pinheiro (2020) among others, around Portuguese Language Textbooks and Multiliteracies/Critical Literacies, as well as assumptions regarding Critical Language and Discourse Studies, such as those by Resende and Pereira (2010), Fairclough (2010, 2016), Ramalho and Resende (2011), Melo (2012), Ferreira (2014) and Van Dijk (2012, 2018a, 2018b, 2021), among other relevant references. In order to further corroborate the field of research source objects, I gather contributions such as Barbosa and Boldarine (2011), Silva (2011), Santana and Ferraz Silva (2020) among others, around how portuguese-language textbooks are part of our problems and contemporaneities, corroborating the reflection of how the world is semioticized by language. It should be noted that this research has a qualitative nature and documentary/bibliographic theoretical-methodological orientation, in which its analysis is based on categories drawn from the very nature of the corpus, based on the binomial < linguistic issues – society/discourses > and thus taking into account the theoretical frameworks delimited. Even though it is still in the development phase, it is observed as this investigation seeks to highlight the importance of language as a protagonist, including from the use of textbooks that also act in the construction and social reconstruction of meanings.
