RESUMO:

Since the globalization, the transit of people and information went beyond physical and communicational boundaries. Contemporary societies are in the midst of transformations that affect different spheres and directly influence the lives of social subjects. In view of this, linguistic practices emerge from different experiences and interactional processes, enabling subjects to employ a variety of linguistic-semiotic resources in their local interactions, negotiating meanings and performing their identities. Thus, standing on the concept of superdiversity (VERTOVEC, 2007), plurilingual subjects engage in translingual practices (CANAGARAJAH, 2013; ROCHA; MACIEL, 2015) and/or translanguaging (GARCÍA; WEI, 2014; WEI, 2018), from which identities are performed for different social purposes (PINTO, 2007; BUTLER, 2019). Therefore, the objective of this research is to understand how these linguistic practices are considered in the educational environment, more precisely in the assessment of written productions of plurilingual subjects, and how identities are performed and negotiated in those productions. This research is based on a qualitative interpretive approach, and is presented as an ethnographic case study that has as participating subjects a teacher and nine students from the PFL (Portuguese as a Foreign Language) course of PROFICI (Programa de Proficiência em Língua Estrangeira para Estudantes e Servidores da UFBA). The students’ written productions are the basis for both the objectives of this research and for the collection of data that also includes: interview with the teacher, questionnaire with the students and the researcher’s fieldnotes. This research is justified by the need for revision of assessment processes that are imposed on the subjects that compose the translingual spaces in the classrooms (WEI, 2011), because the current methods are still ways of defending monolingual ideologies that legitimize language as a coherent homogeneous system (SHOHAMY, 2011).
