RESUMO:

This thesis is an epistemological study of philological studies that mainly aim to understand how the preference of writing concerned it and concerns it in relation to own episteme and theories, even nowadays. For this, firstly, it presents a historic view of the practices of writing and reading to looking for which are those writers and readers during different periods, in order to point out that, when it chooses writing traditions, philology refuses the textual traditions of some groups or folks which it embraces orality like a genuine cultural and intellectual expressions, for example Brazilian Amerindian and African cultures. Next, the fundamental concepts of philological studies are analyzed: language, text and culture, in order to notice on themselves evidences of main linguistic theories and in order to understand that, sometimes, there is an association with an epistemological project closest to a hegemonic perspective. Like an epistemological study, it discusses some contributions of Oral Theory for understanding the way that philological study will require new theories and methods, when it dedicates itself to oral tradition. Finally, from a decolonial perspective, it proposes a philological theory that is built between orality and writing that it works like ways of constitution and transmission of text traditions. The philological studies should dedicate themselves to these traditions, effectively doing a critical exercise.
