RESUMO:
The purpose of the study is to promote effective, safe and reliable access to linguistic, historical and cultural information present in the 19th century manuscript Livro de Tombo da Casa da Ponte in order to find the voices that named the place in Sertão do Rio Pardo, a region that involves the States of Bahia and Minas Gerais. To that end, the outline of five of the sections planned for the thesis is presented for the Qualification Exam. Section 1, INTRODUCTION, presents the direction chosen to the research, considering the available options. As an object of study and data source, the Livro de Tombo da Casa da Ponte represents a possibility to relate different areas in a work that can enrich the studies related to onomastic research and provide significant contributions to those related to the materiality of written texts, such as Philology and Paleography. Besides that it can promote the understanding of the history of language, people and place, recorded in linguistic signs. Section 2, THE DOCUMENT IN HISTORY, begins the process of analyzing and identifying the context and the subjects involved in the production and circulation of the text. It presents the historical way of the document since the institution of the Morgado Guedes de Brito, which marked the beginning of the immense inheritance transferred to the nobility of Casa da Ponte in Brazil, until the end of the entailed system, with the sale of the sites listed in the document. In Section 3, THE CONSERVATIVE LESSON: EDITING THE DOCUMENT FOR THE LINGUISTIC STUDY, the transcription criteria and the facsimilar and semidiplomatic editions of the manuscript are presented, following the guidance of Telles (2009) and Telles and Lose (2017). The work sought to preserve the characteristics of the language in which the text was written, at the same time that it sought to make reading more accessible from the unfolding of the numerous abbreviations present in the text. Section 4, DESCRIPTION AND PALEOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF THE DOCUMENT, was based mainly on the studies of Vera Lúcia Costa Acioli (ACIOLI, 1994), Charles Higounet (HIGOUNET, 2003 [1955]) and Maria Helena Ochi Flexor (FLEXOR, 2008 [1979] to describe and analyze the document in its intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics. Based on its calligraphic characters, it was discussed the existence of other hands in its production besides the one that signs it in three different moments: in the Opening Term, in the Note with guidelines for district prosecutors and in the Closing Term. Finally, considering the lexicon as the first way of access to the text, and with the support of works by renowned lexicologists and lexicographers, such as Maria Tereza Camargo Biderman (BIDERMAN, 2001), Maria da Graça Krieger (KRIEGER, 2006, 2012) and Maria Aparecida Barbosa (BARBOSA, 2001 [1996]), Section 5, THE LEXICON OF THE DOCUMENT, brings the Glossary of the Livro de Tombo da Casa da Ponte, with 123 simple, composed and complex lexical units that demanded for their understanding a rescue of their uses and remote meanings in their socio-historical and discursive context.
