RESUMO:

The Certificate of Proficiency in Brazilian Portuguese for Foreigners - CELPE-Bras isan official Brazilian exam that aims to certify proficiency in Portuguese as a foreign language (BRAZIL, 2019). In this view, the objective of this qualitative and documental investigation is to present a critical analysis of how the representations of Afro-Brazilian culture, and ethnic-racial issues are addressed in the oral test of this exam. The sample consists of 80 Provocative Elements (PEs) of four editions in the period between 2003.1 and 2004.2, used in the oral part of the exam. For data collection, PEs were selected and analyzed in order to verify whether or not they bring questions about ethnic-racial relations and, if so, the questions contained in the interview scripts for the PEs selected reflect the country's ethnic-cultural reality or, on the contrary, if present such reality in a minimized, stigmatized way or, even, if such aspects are totally ignored. In addition to analyzing how Afro-Brazilian culture is described, it also seeks to problematize it. That said, the research evokes the concepts of language and culture, race, stereotype, whiteness, structural, individual and institutional racism (ALMEIDA, 2018). Thus, based on the law 10.639/2003 and the MEC/CNE report of 2004, the research intends to contribute for studies in the field of Portuguese for foreign speakers with a view to emphasizing the relevance of the Brazilian ethnic-racial diversity as a constituent part in the scenario of teaching and learning Portuguese for Speakers of Other Languages.
