RESUMO:

This dissertation aims the study of the anthroponyms of Livro III do Tombo of the Benedictine Monastery of Bahia through the lexical-anthroponimic surveying. This study reveal itself to be of great importance for the historical and cultural aspects of the people in Bahia, because it allows the identification of linguistic facts, customs, ideologies and beliefs, in the choice of names at the time of colonization in Brazil. The Livro III do Tombo Anthroponimy presents itself as Christian, so the most of anthroponyms found had a Portuguese, Spanish and Latin origin. An analysis of these data reflects the historical-cultural context of the society formation of part of the territory of the Salvador city and also other cities in Bahia, from 16th century to the 19th century.
