RESUMO:

The research arises from a concern about the Spanish language teaching-learning process with regard to the approach of linguistic variation in textbooks available to the public of High School. Thus, we aim to analyze how linguistic variation is addressed in the didactic units that make up the didactic collections approved by the National Textbook Program (PNLD) in the 2018 edict. The choice of this object of study is justified by the relevance that the Textbook (LD) has within the teaching-learning process of students in the classroom, being one of the most adopted resources, especially for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (S/ FL). In the first theoretical chapter, we present the theoretical foundations that involve the studies of the linguistic diversity of the Spanish language, this approach being to understand the heterogeneous character of the second most spoken language in the world. While in the second chapter we address the main theoretical foundations of studies developed in Applied Linguistics and Variationist Sociolinguistics that allows dialogue and interdisciplinarity between them, such as, for example, the relationship between language and society in contemporary times, besides treating the phenomenon of linguistic variation in Spanish language teaching-learning process for Brazilian students and its approach in textbooks. The adopted methodology is qualitative - bibliographic content (TELLES, 2002; SILVEIRA and CÓRDOVA, 2009; DENZIN, LINCOLN, 2007), also addressing the assumptions of documentary research since the object of study is developed as a document, in the case the textbook, and having as analysis procedures the content analysis techniques proposed by Bardin (2011), in which three fundamental phases are foreseen: pre-analysis, material exploration and treatment of results (that is, inference and interpretation).
