NN COMPOUNDS IN PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE (17th and 18th centuries)
Morphology. Compounding. NN compounds. 17th and 18th centuries. Language History.
The NN pattern is considered one of the most productive in contemporary Portuguese (RIBEIRO; RIO-TORTO, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2016; GONÇALVES, 2016). Nevertheless, researches on the composition of words in the past phases of Portuguese shows that compounds with this configuration are scarce in texts from Old Portuguese (SANTOS, 2009, 2017; BORGES; SANTOS, 2018). Thus, in this work, the main objective is to study the NN compounds identified in a corpus made up of texts from the 17th and 18th centuries, to investigate the process of expanding this pattern as a producer of Portuguese compounds throughout its history.
