RESUMO:

Reading and writing are actions that are part of the process of identity, political and cultural of the speaker and involve several social practices, including literacy. Being thus, the research entitled Reading in the teaching-learning process of writing in Portuguese at the Federal Institute of Bahia (IFBA) from the perspective of critical literacy aims to verify how reading contributes to the triggering of literacy practices with students from technical high school in the Buildings and Geology courses, from the 1st and 3rd periods. The theoretical support for this research was generated from different areas of knowledge: Textual Linguistics, Discourse Analysis and Applied Linguistics, represented by the researchers: Solé (1998), Koch (1992, 1999, 2008), Pêcheux, Soares (1988), Kleiman (2008, 2016), Antunes (2006, 2008, 2009), Bakhtin (1997,1999), among others. Of this way, reflecting on the role of reading and literacy practices at IFBA technical high school is to think of subjects capable of interacting with the world using language in different situations of communication and social practice. The option for qualitative research of an ethnographic nature was chosen because it is the most viable to reach the expected objectives, considering the context and the participants as main protagonists of the investigation. Since IFBA is a reference institution in quality public education, the conditions imposed to reach the level of demand and the expected results demand from the students a posture of subjects who are critical readers and therefore the need to reflect on the teaching of the mother tongue and the role of reading in that environment. Despite so much research in the language field, it is still possible to observe mistakes in the teaching-learning process of the mother tongue, mainly regarding to reading and textual production. The results of the yearly assessments are the justification for the need to investigate this topic, since the results remain unsatisfactory.
