SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE IN ANALYSIS: IMAGINARY FORMATIONS AND SCIENTIFIC NEUTRALITY
Materialist Orientation Discourse Analysis; Ideology; Science; Imaginary formations; Scientific Neutrality
The Analysis of the Materialist Orientation Discourse, with Michel Pêcheux as its main representative or philosopher, brought important contributions to language studies, mainly with regard to issues related to meaning. Appropriating analyzes of important theories, an Analysis of Materialist Orientation Discourse managed to bring a new perspective to language studies. It was based on this theoretical assumption that we carried out, in this work, an analysis of the formation of scientific image and science i n three historical periods. For this, we selected three corpora, one from each period: from the Middle Ages, Summa Teológica, Tomás de Aquino; the Modern Age, Discourse on Method, by Renê Descartes and the Contemporary Age, The Structure of Scientific Revo lutions, by Thomas Kuhn. Each corpus was analyzed, seeking, starting from the discursive materiality, identifying a sustained image of the subject and science. This verification was important so that we could observe the functioning of scientific discourse and, thus, relate to social, ideological and discursive changes. This gave us support so that, at the end of the work, we made a cross between data and, from that, I problematized a question of science neutrality and objectivity. From the analysis, we obs erved that all corporations or scientific discourses were in line with the hegemonic ideologies of the period in which they were used. This shows that scientific discourse, like all others, is not available for the Conditions of Production, therefore, it i s not affected by ideological influences.
