Benedictine Monastery of Bahia. Philology. Digital Edition
PhD thesis in one volume. It began with an explanation about the arrival of the Benedictine
monks in Salvador, addressing the formation of the bibliographic and documentary archive as
well as the process for the realization of the researches in such holdings, highlighting the Livro
de Crônicas do Mosteiro de São Bento da Bahia, which motivated the production of a digital
edition. The observation that the documents of the Historic Archive of the Benedictine abbey
dialogue between each other was made explicit, allowing to create strong bonds capable of
connecting these documents and make them, by themselves, tell the history of the abbey. As
scope, documents already dealt with by the research group Studia Philologica, of the Federal
University of Bahia, were chosen. A section dedicated to the analysis of the birth scenario of
digital editions was written, highlighting the reader and reading, editorial market and Philology
in technological world. An analysis of the designations used to treat each one of them was
performed. The last part of the work consists of an assessment of the digital editions already
made by researchers from Bahia, to introduce, then, the edition Papéis que narram, available
in the website www.papeisquenarram.com.br.
