RESUMO:

The research behind this doctorate thesis established connections between the Cultural Studies and the French-oriented Discourse Analysis. Hence, the paper effectively proposed to evaluate the discourse as a place where the relationship between language and ideology could be observed, understanding how the language produces meaning for/to subjects. Thus, an analysis was established on the female discursive figure presented in Dolores Duran’s song lyrics (samba music from the 1950) e Tati Quebra Barraco’s (Brazilian funk music from the 2000’s). The decision to study both musical styles was due to the importance of both to understand the modern Brazilian popular music and, mainly, because of the representativeness, regarding the presence of women with real or apparently antagonistic profiles. Therefore, interrelated strategies were initially used to seek understanding how women with different production conditions and from contrasting discursive formations think and act. That was made possible by correlating between linguistic materiality and historical reality in their ideological implications. Thus, the mechanisms of interpretation and understanding that are linked to the identification processes of subjects in their sense affiliations were established to describe the relationship of these subjects with their discursive memory, that is, their places of speech in the production of (effects of) meanings in texts that constitute the corpus. In other words, the researcher was interested in the perception of women figures explicitly and implicitly detectable in the lyrics of the sample songs, seeking to understand which paradigms and which gender relations are inscribed in them, through revealed and unrevealed discourses – what was presented or left out by Dolores and Tati - as effects of female identities in confrontation with or in line with patriarchal ideology. In summary, the study found that the discourse about / of women present in Brazilian music is ideologically determined as a result of the historical transformations that occurred. From this perspective, both samba music and funk demonstrated old and new female postures, through positioning on various subjects, such as marriage and motherhood, work and career, sex and fidelity, in short, identity constructions. Thus, the female discursive ethos in each of the two discursive subjects under analysis concomitantly reflects maintenance, transgression, setbacks, advances, contradictions, transitions, in short, ideological-political postures of sociocultural meaning and resignification in terms of women's role individually and in society. Finally, Dolores Duran and Tati Quebra Barraco represent voices that are sometimes concordant and sometimes dissonant in the universe of gender relations in their existence in the institution of society.
