RESUMO:

This study analyzes the ethno-racial discourse of high school students in Portuguese language classes with a technologic federal context. It has the objective of understanding how to constitute a discursive ethno-racial practice for these students in such a context and classes. Data analyzed were collected through a textual production process of students in the high school third grade in the Federal Institution of Bahia (IFBA), the campus of Salvador. During Portuguese language classes the sum of 55 experience reports, 55 argumentative essays and 27 questionnaires were produced. The study was developed based on the theory-methodology of Critical Applied Linguistics (CAL), more specifically, the concept of transdisciplinarity of language for problematizing social questions (CELANI, 1998; PENNYCOOK, 2008; MOITA LOPES, 2006; KLEIMAN, 2013) and for reflecting ethno-racial relations in Portuguese language classes. Generated Data went through qualitative analysis and were interpreted based on three analysis categories: (a) black identity, (b) racism inside and outside the context of IFBA and (c) racial relationships in the Portuguese language classes. The results show generally that for black students to assume the black identity, breaking out of the discourse of exclusion and domination that is characterized by the construction of stereotypes and inferiority of phenotype traits and the black culture is necessary. In addition, the textual production of students showed a discourse of belonging and solidarity with the appreciation of Afro-Brazilian culture and history, the appreciation of the aesthetics of black identity. As for the daily racial practices out of the school context, data show that racism is still a reality that affects social, affective and self-acceptance relationships. In the technological federal context, students reported various experiences that ratify the existence in the institutional space, and also point out the institution as a place of racial plurality that creates a way to fight against racial practices. In the end, the analysis proved that
Portuguese language classes were important for the critical formation of students through inserting literature by Afro-Brazilian authors, debates, conversation groups, seminars and the appreciation of black culture in the classroom.
