RESUMO:

Learning English, nowadays also appears as one of the skills required for insertion in the academic world and for better professional opportunities. In addition, English as a global language is the language of communication between people. The world is in contact with this language in the most diverse daily contexts, in social networks, music, films and international series, as well as in the enormous amount of foreignisms that are constantly incorporated into the Portuguese language. Knowing that the Globalization is a consummate fact in the contemporary world, it is also the result of the disappearance of the world's borders, minimizing distances, and therefore facilitating interaction among nations, in this process we share about our life and culture with the life and culture of other people. There is also the other side of Globalization, which is present in the process of colonization, which somehow was and still is of "alienation". Over time English Language has become the language of business transactions among countries and in academic use. These aspects also conferred the dissemination of English Language, its international language character. Therefore their learning became a necessity, "in order to guarantee an international vehicle" (DAVID CRYSTAL, 2005). Thus, the objective of our research was to teach the English language as a foreign language, within an intercultural perspective, linked directly to the process of Globalization, to observe its dynamics in a high school classroom in a Federal Institution of Bahia. Participants in the research stated that "they believed that in their English classroom the language was taught and learned in an intercultural way". The research is a case study, where the class was observed and as instruments were used a logbook (a diary with my notes), questionnaires and interview and we came to the conclusion that this case specifically showed us that the group has its understanding on interculturality and globalization. Most had a view on the intercultural approach only in the case of teaching English addressing the most varied possible cultures (including ours), but it is notorious that they did not understand the intercultural approach with all the considerations that this term brings.
