RESUMO:
This dissertation focuses on the analysis of stereotypes about the African cultures and also discusses the processes of re-significance of the African students identities of the PEC-G (Student of Program-Graduation Agreement), participants in the UFBA course of PROFICI (Program of Proficiency in Foreign Language for Students and Workers of UFBA) at UFBA. From the reports of the experiences of these students, whose intercultural contact occurs in Salvador, during one year, the stereotypes of others about Africa were identified and raised. Thus, from the collected reports, the students were listened to as to what stereotypes about their African cultures and about being African these students experienced in their contact with Brazilians in Salvador. Thus, we analyzed the presence of negative stereotypes about the African, from several countries of the continent and different cultures. The choice, therefore, of this course of PROFICI as a place for research it was due to the fact that it was the place where there would be greater contact with African foreign students. Since the PEC-G provides the coming of these to Brazil, taking in the educational-political objective of this program, related to investment in international relations with developing countries, opening doors in Brazilian universities for students from other countries of Central and South America, East Timor and Africa. The PROEMPLE, a Portuguese course for foreigners of the PROFICI, thus enables a closer relationship with the African subjects and their cultures, so, from this contact, it was tried to answer the following question: How the stereotypes, constructed by others about Africa to re-signification the identities of the African students of the PEC-G UFBA? In order to do so, we discussed concepts about identity, culture, racism, prejudice and, moreover, how the PLE classes could help in the debate and deconstruction of these negative stereotypes about Africa, in order to contribute to a critical education in the context of contemporaneity.
