SUMMARY:

This work’s purpose is to investigate, under the assumptions of Critical Applied Linguistics and Critical Discourse Analysis, discourses existing in the guidelines for education of young people in undergoing socio-educational measures (in juvenile detention centers) at the federal, state and municipal levels: the “Plano Nacional de Atendimento Socioeducativo”; the “Plano Estadual de Atendimento Socioeducativo da Bahia”; and the “Plano Decenal de Atendimento Socioeducativo da Cidade do Salvador”. This investigation aims to understand the values and ideals that guide educational policies for this audience, as well as to reveal possible ideologies and social asymmetries perpetuated in/by the discourses conveyed in the selected texts. This investigation will be developed with, both, documental and qualitative methodologies, with documents’ analysis, enabling immersion in the field of studies in question, capturing social phenomena according to the perspectives contained in the documents (Kripka; Scheller; Bonocco, 2015) and thus enabling the analysis of aspects of the world taking into account their qualitative aspects (Ramalho; Resende, 2011). Based on the analyses carried out, and with the conception of ideology of Critical Discourse Analysis and three analytical categories of this field of studies – intertextuality, interdiscursivity and representation of social actors – in mind, the aim is to develop intervention strategies in the documents in question, so that the discourses that guide public educational policies conveyed in guidelines for young people complying with socio-educational measures are reviewed and restructured, in favor of social improvements that benefit this student group.
