Under the aegis of Applied Linguistics, this research investigates how through linguistic-discursive mechanisms the (re)construction of the identities of the member of Narcotics Anonymous occurs. It consists of qualitative research with an interpretative bias. The contributions to the intended theoretical-methodological dialogue are Critical Discourse Analysis (FAIRCLOUGH, 1989, 2003, 2012), Halliday's Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY, 1968, 2004 and 2014); emancipatory education (Critical Pedagogy) (FREIRE, 1992, 2002, 2005, 2007), the Epistemology of Complexity (MORIN, 1990, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013); the conception of Applied Linguistics in the so-called recent modernity (MOITA LOPES, 2006; FABRÍCIO, 2006); and the conception of Identity (BLOMMAERT, 2005) (GIDDENS, 2002) (GEE, 2001) (CHARAUDEAU, 2009; COSTA, 2016). The CDA, which consists of the study of language as a social practice, with a view to investigating changes in contemporary social life, together with the LSF framework, allowed me to investigate the discursive causal mechanisms of the corpus and its potential ideological effects in the three moments of orders of discourse (discourses, genres, styles), examining their meanings: actional, representational and identificational, with emphasis on the latter. I think I can collaborate theoretically by suggesting a new form of operation of the ideology called by me deification, to be incorporated as a typical strategy of symbolic construction in the general mode of operation of the ideology – Unification – proposed by Thompson (2002a) which allows the identification of standardization discursive-ideological movement of a community through a common (hegemonic) ideal, which, in this research, is the idealized member of the fellowship of Narcotics Anonymous who does not experience the universalization of particular interests designed to establish and sustain relationships of domination (Thompson, 2002a ). Deification enables governance and ensures hegemony. Critical Pedagogy and the Epistemology of Complexity made it possible to focus on the construction of situated knowledge of NA members and their reality, to transform them into ecologized ways of thinking and acting, exclusively intermediated by language, modifiers of the old ways of thinking/acting of the NA member. member, who, due to his desire to have “a new way of life”, becomes able to transform his reality and, consequently, society. The results, interpretations and generalizations indicate that there is a tendency to make the forms of oppression in the fraternity invisible, from the point of view of the ADC, and the situated knowledge operates in an empowering and ecologized way on the members of Narcotics Anonymous.
