The present doctoral thesis is a research that presents a synoptic edition of the manuscripts of the diaries of Carolina Maria de Jesus with temporal reference to the work Quarto de Despejo: diário de uma favelada1 , that is, the years 1955, 1958 and 1959. The objective of the study was to present a collation between the text of the manuscripts and that of the prince edition, published in 1960 and edited by the journalist Audálio Dantas, and to locate the authorial text in the agenda of the history of written culture in Brazil. Prior to that, a long theoretical review was carried out seeking to defend the need for a cultural history of black women. 2569 handwritten pages accessed were transcribed and edited, considering that part of the collection has already been lost, which made it impossible to fully compare the texts. Then, the text of the printed work was converted to a text editor, with the same size and font used in the transcription of the manuscripts, in order to perform a more accurate count of words and characters that would determine the textual extension of both supports. Placed the testimonies side by side, the comparison activity was carried out, carrying out a survey that signaled their divergences and convergences. I established and separated five groups of variables, namely: punctuation, additions, displacement, substitution and deletion, to identify the places of criticism present in the corpora. With that, I developed a description about the textual set and what is evident in the manuscripts in contrast to the editorial project of Audálio Dantas, seeking to understand which editorial project was presented. I concluded that I was facing another subject significantly different from that presented in the 1960 text that, despite the volume produced and the projection that the printed matter gained nationally and internationally, had its words silenced by the actions undertaken in the editorial process with characteristic traits prone to stereotypes even today fought by the reception that recognizes the importance of the writing produced by Carolina Maria de Jesus and other black hands.
