Adverbials in the archaic period of Portuguese: linguistic study and lexicographical record.

This paper aims to observe the morphosyntactic behavior of adverbials in the archaic period of the Portuguese language, based on literary and non-literary corpora, of various textual genres, written between the 13th century and the first half of the 16th century, contributing to the knowledge of the process of the historical constitution of Portuguese. The corpora were composed of twenty archaic portuguese texts, namely: Cantigas de Santa Maria, Foro Real de Afonso X, Notícia de Torto, Testamento de Afonso II, Diálogos de São Gregório, Flos Sanctorum, Foros de Garvão, Documentos Notoriais do Mosteiro de Vilarinho (século XIV), Documentos Notoriais do Mosteiro de Chelas (século XIV), Crônicas de  Dom Pedro I, Orto do Esposo, Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha, Documentos Notoriais do Mosteiro de Vilarinho (século XV), Documentos Notoriais do Mosteiro de Chelas (século XV), Crônica Troiana em Linguagem Portuguesa, Auto da Índia, Auto da Barca do Inferno, Auto de Inês Pereira, Gramática da Linguagem Portuguesa de Fernão de Oliveira e Gramática da Língua Portuguesa de João de Barros. From this, the objective is to discuss the concept and classification currently dispensed for the class of adverbs, considering the epistemological foundations of Historical-variational Lexicography, its theoretical object and methods that support it. As a product of this research, an inventory of these elements is offered through a Vocabulary of Archaic Portuguese Adverbials. It was found that systematic linguistic analysis is the only way to offer a concept and an adequate classification for adverbials; that the lexical variety of corpora adverbials reveals important relevant perspectives of their linguistic change process; that the changes observed over time affect the other values that the elements assume; and that the different literary genres and socio-historical characteristics of the documents that make up the corpora corroborate the figuration of the particularities that adverbials have assumed in history.
