SUMMARY:

The author, who speaks Czech, Portuguese, and English, aimed to understand the possible reconfigurations of identity and as he has not identified research between Czech and Portuguese speakers, he decided to conduct his own. This study, linked to the field of Applied Linguistics, and still in the process of construction, can improve pedagogical practices, perceiving the teaching of languages as social and cultural practices. The central question is: speaking non-mother tongue, do socio-cultural identities reconfigure? The work intends to analyze the identity reconfigurations of Czechs and Brazilians. The author interviewed nine Brazilians in the Czech Republic and nine Czechs in Brazil, selected passages of which have already been rewritten and translated and included in the analytical part of the academic work. The theoretical chapter is divided into three parts, focusing on the concepts of language, culture and identity and the relationships between them. The synthesis and interpretation of responses will be based on theoretical approaches by authors such as: Černý (1998), Bauman (2005), Block (2009, 2017), Boroditsky (2003), Everett (2012; 2019), Grosjean (1980, 2001) , Hall (2000, 2006), Kramsch (1998), Le Page (1980), Mendes (2007), Moita Lopes (1994, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2006), Norton (1997, 2000, 2002, 2008, 2010) , Pinker (2003; 2018), Rajagopalan (1998, 2003, 2004, 2006), van Dijk (1999), among others. It is a qualitative, interpretative, and interdisciplinary investigation, the methodology of which is described in detail in the third chapter, including the description of the pilot project, which was carried out before the beginning of the research. The conceptions of identities will be investigated from the perspective of the acquired language, seeking conclusions in the dimension of the interviewees' profiles. Having conducted all the interviews, the author is able to reflect, still partially, on some conclusions regarding identity reconfigurations.
