SUMMARY:

The objective of the study was to evaluate the viability of growth and composition of biomolecules from the biomass of Spirulina sp. LEB18 cultivated using desalination concentrate (DCR) as a culture medium under three cycles of reuse on a pilot scale (outdoor). For this, a culture medium containing 100% DCR and 25% of the nutrients from the synthetic medium (Zarrouk) was used in the cultivation of Spirulina sp. LEB 18 and subsequently reused in three consecutive cycles to culture the same microalgae. Spirulina grown in DCR allowed growth (Xmax = 1.24(29th), 1.28(19th) and 1.25(12th) g L-1, in cycles 1, 2, and 3, respectively) and content results of carbohydrates (up to 20%, m m-1; recycle 1), lipids (up to 9.4%, m m-1; recycle 2) and proteins (up to 37%, m m-1; recycle 1) with an important profile of essential amino acids (~ 40% of total proteins). The reuse of culture medium containing DC in new cultures of Spirulina sp. proved to be an innovative alternative in obtaining biomass of interesting nutritional composition for different biotechnological applications.
