SUMMARY:

The object to be discussed throughout this research is the way in which the ten
editions of the Itacaré Dance Festival contributed to the coexistence of
otherness. The festival takes place in the city of Itacaré located on the southern
coast of the State of Bahia, Brazil, and a large part of the festival takes place in
the Porto de Trás neighbourhood, considered an urban quilombo. Considering
its unique format, it is worth explaining its genesis, its creation, its history. The
notion of the expansion of the political imaginary is anchored in the study of
experiences resulting from the Itacaré Dance Festival (2008 to 2022), and
understood as identification with what is different. The research will analyse the
experiences using the cartography of social action as a methodological basis
according to Ana Clara Ribeiro (2004). And with the following moorings:
mobilized by issues of social segregation, this study is based on the tactics
according to historian Michel de Certeau (2014); the co-implicating relationships
between body and environment described by the authors Prof. Dr. Fabiana
Dultra Britto and Prof. Dr. Paola Berenstein Jacques as urban corpography
(2008, 2010); with regard to the Territory, it will discuss the lived space, the
banal space from the geographer Milton Santos (2014) and the notion of
quilombo (1995/96) from the anthropologist Kabengele Munanga; We will also
present the meaning of the emancipated spectator according to Jacques
Rancière (2007). And about the politician presented by political scientist
Chantal Mouffe (2015), the relationship to the politician and politics. The
objective of this research is to understand that coexistence with differences in
the dance environment can produce counter-hegemonic actions in the city and
in art.
