SUMMARY:

Community Catholic Religious Tourism (TRCC) allows respect for human beings and the process of social development of the territory, as it values the customs and beliefs of the population and promotes the community's leading role in tourism actions. Seeking to understand this dynamic and propose a social technology for territorial development, this applied research was carried out with the aim of articulating the tourist activities of the main church “Paróquia Nossa Senhora dos Alagados e São João Paulo II” in the Territory of Alagados in Uruguay based on understanding the historical process of social intervention in the Parish and development actions in religious tourism; understanding the participation of social actors in territorial development; and, the identification and organization of Catholic religious tourist routes in the territory with the participation of social actors. Based on the experience of Catholic faith, the researcher's experience of community life with residents of the Uruguay neighborhood and the negotiation and construction of actions with social actors, participatory research with social implications was carried out, which will be presented based on a memorial of the timeline that covers the researcher's life, academic and professional trajectory and records the main moments of articulation of social actors and development of TRCC scripts. As a result, the research proposes TRCC as a new field of academic research and technological development. The identification and organization of the Catholic community tourist itinerary in the territory of Alagados based on the articulation of social actors provided social and economic benefits to the population living around the Parish, impacted the territorial requalification of the territory, promoted the empowerment and learning of social actors and contributed to the sustainable development of the territory by expanding the links of the entire tourist production chain.
