RESUMO:

Introduction: Currently, in Audiology, the early and accurate diagnosis of hearing impairment is still difficult for people with multiple disabilities, even with the actual technological advancement in the area, which made it possible to perform hearing tests on newborns, such as assessments electroacoustic and electrophysiological. However, these objective tests are not sufficient for the diagnosis of hearing loss. For this, it is essential to find the hearing thresholds, which occurs through pure tone audiometry, which makes up the battery of tests of the basic (subjective) audiological evaluation, and which when compared to speech tests confirm the hearing deficit. Objective: to evaluate the use of eye tracking technology as an auxiliary tool for the basic audiological evaluation of people with multiple disabilities in the Brazilian Unified System of Health. Method: this is a case study with six users with cerebral palsy; it is an evaluative, descriptive, exploratory and qualitative-quantitative study. The subjective audiological evaluation was performed with eye tracking and the results were compared to those of the objective evaluation. Triangulation of methods was used and caregivers and professionals interviewed. Results: there was compatibility between the results obtained in the audiological tests for all evaluated users. The facilities mentioned in the observations were around people (users and staff), who were collaborative and experienced, respectively. The main difficulties pointed out were related to users' involuntary movements, which made it difficult to capture eye movement. Users showed tranquility, collaboration, attention and joy during the tests, and the team showed tranquility, resoluteness and patience. Most caregivers and health professionals said that screening is extremely important for the basic audiological evaluation of people with multiple disabilities. Conclusion: This study pointed out that eye tracking technology can be an auxiliary tool for the basic audiological evaluation of people with multiple disabilities in Unified System of Health. However more studies are needed to better understand this specific knowledge, mainly because it is a little explored tool in Audiology.
