SUMMARY:

The present thesis seeks to analyze the realization of a practice of freedom in the present day, namely: the act of raising one's voice, presented by bell hooks, which resembles parrésia as a practice, based on the interpretation that Foucault develops of parrésia in Antiquity, especially the cynical aspect, in terms of resisting governability through truth. This resistance occurs through mechanisms and procedures aimed at guiding individuals, that is, through modes of opposition to behavioral direction. In effect, raising one's voice and speaking freely constitutes a practice of freedom in the face of the exercise of modern power, which manifests in truth discourses and produces subjugation. This power is exercised in the form of governance, that is, it is through it that behaviors are controlled. However, it is also in this context that the possibility of resistance to this governance emerges, which limits us, interpellates us, and dictates how we should or should not act. Governance that shapes itself within the raciality device, coined by Sueli Carneiro, and seeks to enhance the status quo of groups that oppress and undermine struggles involving gender, race, and class. Thus, we will take as a theme for analysis the courage to speak freely as a strategy of resistance, considering it a process of transformation that allows the individual to turn the tables and subvert truth discourses, as well as the pursuit of an ethics that renews itself and aids in the creation of other ways of selfconstruction in both individual and collective spheres. It is a practice in which the individual encounters a field of action possibilities, resisting and subverting through free speech. Our hypothesis, therefore, is that parrésia can be understood as a confrontation, a discomfort directed at individuals and groups that occupy the position of oppressors. In contemporary times, this practice can be associated with what bell hooks termed "raising one's voice": the courage to speak freely and confront the modes of domination that reduce us to the condition of submission and subjugation.
