SUMMARY:

The object of this research is the philosophical problem related to the production of knowledge by black women and the way in which this production is discredited or silenced. The aim of this research is to analyze, based on Miranda Fricker's theory of epistemic injustice (2023) and Kristie Dotson's theory of epistemic oppression (2011; 2012; 2014), how this exclusion manifests itself in epistemic discussions and in the production of knowledge by these women. For this investigation, we will use black feminist epistemology, based on the works of Patricia Hill Collins (2019) and Sueli Carneiro (2023), to examine how black women are affected as knowers. This analysis leads us to question: (i) which criteria are used to validate knowledge; (ii) who holds the power to establish these criteria; and (iii) which perspectives are privileged and which are marginalized in this process.
