CHUBBUCK: emotional memory, impulses and internal actions in the character creation process.
Chubbuck Method, Character construction, Actor's pedagogy, Emotional
Memory
This research aims to investigate emotional memory, impulses and internal actions in the
Chubbuck methodology as fundamental components of the poetics through which the actor
creates his characters. The study makes a bibliographical review of Ivana Chubbuck's masters
with a focus on the study of the Stanislavski System to investigate how the creator of the
method sought answers to help contemporary actors in their character composition processes.
Stanislavski, Stela Adler, Meisner, Uta Hagen, Lee Strasberg, Boleslavski, among others, are
revisited with the aim of deepening the study of the work of composing personas on stage and
drawing parallels with the method developed by Ivana. Furthermore, the study approaches the
practical application of the methodology, offering actors and teachers a possible path to study.
The intention is to report the composition of a work through pedagogy for the contemporary
actor, the details of practical work carried out with actors from the UFBA theatrical
interpretation course. This practice can help contribute to actors and teachers who wish to
replicate, teach, apply the technique in their work or reinvent this methodology that is so
relevant today.
