SUMMARY:

People with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) often have dietary restrictions that can compromise nutrient intake. Studies have shown suboptimal energy consumption and adequate or excessive protein intake, regardless of the type and stage of the disease, however, it is important to note that most studies did not use specific nutritional recommendations for this population. Furthermore, few studies have evaluated the influence of food consumption on the nutritional status of these patients. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate nutritional adequacy and factors related to food consumption of energy and macronutrients by people with IBD. This is a cross-sectional study, carried out from July 2012 to December 2014, in two Reference Centers for the treatment of IBD. Data were collected using a semi-structured form, which contained socioeconomic, clinical and nutritional issues. Weight, height and Waist Circumference (WC) were measured using standardized techniques and the Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated. Body composition analysis was performed by dual-energy X-ray Absorption and food consumption was assessed using two 24-hour recalls (R-24h), which were calculated using the DietWin Personal Software version 2797, obtaining the average amount of energy and macronutrients. Statistical analysis will be performed with the help of the Software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. The Shapiro-Wilk Test will be used to assess normality. Depending on the normality of the variables, the difference between the groups will be verified by the Student's t test or by the Mann-Whitney U test; and the correlation will be evaluated by Pearson's or Spearman's correlation tests. The p value will be set at < 0.05. This work was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Complexo Hospitalar Universitário Professor Edgard Santos
