IDEOLOGY IN CONSERVATION BIOLOGY AND SCIENCE TEACHING
Biodiversity conservation, Ethics and Values, Environmental Education
Ideology encompasses values, principles, concepts and norms, and aims at a certain universality in the ways of feeling, thinking and acting, related to the interests of the dominant social class. In science education, ideology generates consequences on the development of knowledge, practices and values in favor of biodiversity conservation. The objective is to analyze the association between ideology, conservation biology and science education, through historical and critical analysis. In environmental education specifically, it entails a plurality of perspectives and political-pedagogical trends, which represent possibilities and challenges for teachers and students. It is necessary to understand the political pedagogical aspects and ideological orientations to better deal with socio-environmental problems. We defend a proposal for critical environmental education, which considers the relationships between science, technology, society and the environment to train citizens who can think critically and capable of recognizing ideologies inherent to socio-scientific issues.
