This dissertation, prepared for the defense of the Master's thesis in the Postgraduate Program in Design, aims to investigate the influence of image reproduction technologies in the field of illustration, analyzing its technical, methodological, and epistemic aspects, as well as its genesis, characteristics, and constituent elements. Specifically, it seeks to understand the central role of technology and its generating philosophy in the production and dissemination of illustration in editorial design, in addition to examining how reproducibility affects the creation of the printed image. Three theoretical universes were considered in this research—illustration, the book, and the philosophy of technology—from which we highlight some objectives to be explored, such as analyzing the phenomenon of the book, its historical trajectory; examining the image throughout humanity; identifying the inflection points of the image in contemporary times, resulting from technological advancement, among others, with a temporal scope up to the beginning of the 19th century. To achieve these objectives, a systematic literature review was used as the methodology, with the aim of identifying, selecting, evaluating, and synthesizing relevant available evidence; This dissertation is a telematic review focused on the analysis of data collected from telecommunications and computer systems within the declared universes of image and its production. The purpose of this dissertation is to provide a theoretical foundation and support reflections on image reproduction and its development with technological advancements in editorial design, both for professionals and researchers in the fields of design and visual arts.
